county police are cracking down today on pedestrians who don't use a special crosswalk near the dunn loring metro station. construction along gallows road here has taken away a sidewalk near the metro stop. signs direct pedestrians to a marked crosswalk so they can get around the construction zone safely but many aren't using it. last week police issued warnings. starting today violators will get a ticket. police tell us it's a matter of safety. two pedestrians have been hit by cars in just the past five months. >> they're not using the sidewalk. they're walking on the other side where there is no sidewalk in the travel lane, crossing mid block, running in between cars. all sorts of things that are very unsafe. >> tickets can be as much as $250. the construction project is expected to last for four years. metro's launching a massive ad campaign to prepare riders for one of the biggest service changes in its history. it's inexpanded service called rush plus designed to ease over crowding during the morning and evening rush. 21 stations on the orange, blue, green, and yellow lines will get si
