tory dunnan has more. how is it playing out on the campaign trail? >> reporter: considering the jobs report came out the friday before election day, it definitely matters, which candidate you ask. >> america will come roaring back. >> we'll win this election. >> reporter: it's perhaps the last unknown before election day, one last chance for momentum to swing one way or the other. what we got is more mixed news. >> the same course we have been on mr. not lead to a better destination. >> we have made real progress oar 171,000 jobs were created last month. that's more than economists predicted. take a look at this. the unemployment rate slightly picked up from 7.8% to 7.9%. the unemployment rate in key battleground states -- states like florida as well as nevada and colorado are above the national average but other key swing states like iowa or ohio are below the national average. now the big question remains -- are voters still frustrated. >> companies held more workers in october. >> unemployment is higher today than when barack obama took office. th
