ppg had a pretty good quarter and so did dupont. dupont 3.45%.ost because ppg stock was run so much. the stock wasn't being recognized for all the changes. ppg sells for 14 times this year's earnings because of the reshuffling and reengineering it does. dupont trades at 12 times earnings because people haven't grasped the changes that have been made. ppg and dupont have transformed themselves. what about dow? last season they reported a short fall. unlike ppg and dupont they bemoan the weakness in europe and really said china is not so good. and then the united states june got bad. management was quite colorful about how bad things are all over the world. between that and starbucks it was a head turner. this is not a case of dow being a bad company. it is run by a very smart ceo. you have probably seen him on cnbc. we like that kind of yield. it has a fabulous commodity franchise but that is really the issue here. dow chemical is the essence of a commodity play which would be terrific if we were about to have a world wide economic growth spurt. t

among the dow industrials, dupont led the decliners. jefferies cut its rating on the stock to a hold from buy. dupont shares fell 2% to close at $49.43, and that weak data on american manufacturing was also cited as a reason for the selling. moving now to today's deal activity today, and how the stocks of the marrying companies fared. shares of amylin gained a healthy 9% today and are now trading close to a four year high. that's after agreeing late friday to be bought by bristol- myers squibb. bristol myers stock rose a fraction, still trading close to a ten-year high. germany's lincare breathed new life into shares of respiratory provider lincare. the stock gained on that multi- billion dollar all cash deal. in technolgoy pairings, micron gained 4% after the chipmaker agreed to buy its japanese rival. on the other hand, dell slipped 1% after acknowledging it was buying quest software. quest edged up slightly to close the deal had been rumored since last week, and involved another bidder led by a private equity group. speaking of "priv

the dupont circle station had to be closed twice this morning because of broken-down trains. tracee wilkins is live outside the station with more on the problems. tell us what's going on out there. >> reporter: well, right now, barbara, the good thing is everything is back to normal, but it was a mess and this was right in the middle of rush hour. so, again, things are back to normal right now, but still some delays on the red line. this follows a he messy weekend commute. it this started this morning around 8:10 a.m. metro officials had to off-load a train back onto the platform due to a mechanical issue. the station was closed for 15 minutes as they tried to ease congestion and get the train moving again. after 9:00 a.m. another train broke down causing the station to close again. everything is up and running now, but there are delays. today's incident follows what was a messy weekend commute. passengers were stranded for 45 minutes saturday afternoon due to a glitch in the computer system. the computer problem left controllers in the metro rail command center unable to see
