durbin: too many americans are out of work. we know that. without a steady income, it is hard for families to stay current on their monthly expenses. we've all talked about the consequences of losing a job and when i meet with the unemployed in illinois, one of the first things we talk about is health insurance because that's one of the first casualties. it is very difficult, if not impossible, for someone unemployed to maintain cobra payments once they're out of work. they will a deplete their savings and find themselves in a vulnerable position. some fall behind on mortgage payments. more than 4 million families lost their homes during the housing crisis which began in 2008. another 10.7 million americans own mortgages under water. it was interesting, one of the major mortgage bank associations in washington, d.c., recently had a short sale of their headquarters building in washington. they went under water. they couldn't pay their mortgage. they ended up selling. it's happening not just to business obviously but to a lot of home owns. it

durbin: are we in morning business? officer sphe yes, we are. mr.n: over the last several months, i have put my staff on a little mission, and i asked them to identify manufacturing companies in my home state of illinois that have not only weathered this recession but are doing well and are hiring. i wanted to meet with these companies and find out why the recession has treated them differently, particularly when it comes to manufacturing jobs. i have been pleasantly surprised at home businesses i have found to be in that condition in my state. not to understate our unemployment rate or the impact of the recession on many businesses, the fact is there are some that have not only weathered the storm but are doing quite well. and they represent a variety of different things that they manufacture. the heartening and encourage news is that we are hearing more often that companies have decided to resource their jobs back to the united states. the president in his state of the union address spoke of one such company, mast sper lock, located in mil milwauk

and i thank senator durbin as well. i would like to take some time to speak about another court issued that was just made public yesterday. judge emmet sullivan of federal district court d.c. district issued no opinion ordering the public release of a 500-page report outlining a series misconduct by the justice department attorneys from the public integrity section during the prosecution of senator stevens. in the opinion, judge sullivan disgustedly tortured history of the stevens prosecution -- discussed the tortured history of the stevens prosecution. a public trial and conviction and a press conference celebrating the guilty verdict of prosecutorial misconduct. he noted that the evidence became clear and hard to refuse did the justice vacate the verdict. however, the justice department also stepped in to protect the prosecutors. the justice department initially sought to prevent any misconduct review by the court, arguing instead for an internal review that they conduct. to his credit, judge sullivan did not allow th

delayed in terms of the july implementation is more likely than not similar to what we saw with the durbin, some changes at the last minute. i think we're going to see a similar type of chain of events with volcker. >> yeah. you just wonder if anything really happens before the election in november. but let me put that aside for a moment. anton, as someone who manages two financial funds, tell me how you're allocating money in the group today? >> certainly my large cap fund is going to have some citi and jpmorgan in it and the bigger regionals like capital one. but the smaller cap stocks look very interesting. we just came from a conference, i saw todd the other day in orlando, and the management teams feel pretty comfortable where they are. they feel comfortable about their own economic future. they're all talking about m & a. we need a match to light this kindling here. there's a lot of kind llg here. it's made it hard for the really small banks to make a good living. i think the large banks are facing revenue headwinds. i think the largers are going to eat the smallers. it's the bottom

there were minor concerns about what impact the durbin interchange would be. the cfo is now saying the impact is minimal. seems they're positioning themselves to do all the right things here. the one concern you could have is the train on free cash flow is they have to spaend lot of money. but to counter that, just utilize the stock, continues to move higher. >> because of the levee on small debit card transactions. there was a gap between when they raised their prices and when this took place. but again as joe mentioned it is limited. >> joe mentioned the free cash flow. to me these numbers they're indicating -- and they talked about, actually, their ability to fund a lot of these new deals in their organic growth internally. 8% to 9% growth, if they can keep that up this is fantastic. they're going after the netflix space. that's where i would look. how does netflix react? this will probably be a more generic version but the ability with 30 million kiosks with the addresses for verizon to solicit, this is going to be exciting. >> obviously the deal is histor
