and senator dick durbin is going to remain in the u.s. senate as well.m the state of illinois, so too holds for the democrats. and to steve kornacki, can you bring us up to speed on north carolina and arizona, please? >> let's take a look here. a couple of different places. so, again, in north carolina now, the trump advantage has moved up over 50,000 votes. what has he gained to put him there? we were talking about this, union county here, big suburban, ex-urban county outside of charlotte, and basically the vote is in there. trump's going to end up over 60%. again, getting big same-day numbers. we saw that number lagging overall for trump, his percentage in this county. ends up over 60%. gets a lot of votes out of there. statewide that helps him move up. you see close to 60,000 votes statewide. where is the remaining vote in north carolina? still a lot in wake county, where raleigh is. greensboro, winston-salem, there are still some to come in charlotte. there is still a small, small amounts gathering in smaller republican-friendly areas of the state a

durbin: thank you very much. madam president, before i think make my remarks, i want to take a moment to on the floor of the senate formally and officially thank the people of illinois to electing me for another term to the united states senate. on election night when the results were apparent, i went and stared into an ipad to announce my victory speech. it is unlike anything i'd ever experienced and i said so. it was an extraordinary campaign experience made even more difficult and challenging because of the pandemic crisis. i want to thank the people of state for standing by me and giving me the chance to serve again. i am honored to serve, especially during this time of transition in america and transition around the world. together with the trust and science that the biden and harris administration will return to our national agenda, i'm eager to continue my work to help the families, small businesses, schools, hospitals, and constituents in my state and help all of us in this country endure this pandemic to

durbin: mr. president, losing an election hurts. i know. i lost three elections before i ever won one. i suspect anyone who has ever lost an election has had to grapple with the disappointments, the what ifs, and even a kind of sadness bordering on anger. but that's the risk you take when you run for office. the voters have the last word. never until now have we heard it suggested that losing a presidential candidate ought to be allowed to put america's national security at risk because he is struggling, struggling mightily to accept his own loss in the election. never until now have we tolerated a losing presidential candidate deliberately undermining the american faith in the integrity of our electoral system. never before have we witnessed a losing presidential candidate refuse out of spite and anger to follow the law and to allow the peaceful, orderly transfer of power to a successor. never before now could many americans even imagine and outgoing president deliberately sabotaging our nation's heroic efforts to bring an end to the deadl
