so downtown connector here remains clear other than a snow plow but in raleigh durham area, a differento work, though school let out early. people still trying to get home when the brunt of the storm came. and a lot of people wound up stranded on the highway. some of the pictures and video we've seen out of that region, reminiscent of what happened here during that last snow storm two weeks ago. lessons learned from that storm here in atlanta. officials deciding to err on the side of caution. with this storm it appears to have paid off. >> two weeks ago i had friends stuck in their car and the national guard delivering mres so they can eat for 18, 20 hours in cases so there was a different response here. what will commuters expect in the morning? >> most commuters are still going to stay home, officials telling people to hunker down in their homes. forecasters are saying there may be as much as an inch of snow on the ground. there is still precipitation. we saw sleet on and off during the day. now, looks like it's trying to turn into snow. some school systems wait until the last minute

raleigh/durh raleigh/durham, it hit with vengeance.ayetteville got hit early, and then on the coast, all the way to nags head, this was quite a storm. but i'm pleased to report that we have no one stranded in their cars overnight. we did a great rescue and our roads are looking pretty good except for a few jackknifed trucks toward the mountains. but we've lost three people due to the storm and we don't want anymore fatalities as we recover. >> are you getting help from any other states? are they sending you plows? is there any sort of national effort for help? some states aren't particularly ready for the horrible snow because you don't always get them. >> well, actually, about every southeastern state where we would have typically got help has been hit. it is the utilities also north and south carolina, the main concern we have is power outages. especially out west and in the mon mountain its. we have over 100,000 people without power so that is our major concern in addition for the black ice. i did not want anyone spending the night

the situation that atlanta had is now happening right now in raleigh durham because it started snowing at noon. people were already out doing things. that snow is moving up towards d.c. it's already snowing in resh month, hampton roads and icing all the way down here. david mattingly in charlotte, going to get freezing rain, sleet all night. really more sleet. now sleet is frozen by the time it hits the grouchbtnd. it hurts you when it hits you. sleet freezes on contact. freezing rain is more dangerous than sleet. there will be a big snow event. i'm drawing that line. that's until about here. that's i-95. if you are east of it, you don't get much. if you are west of it, you get a lot. right along that will be where the transition is. the low itself will go right up the coast. the closer you are to the low, the warmer the air will be. it will be warm through here but it will be cold back here. that's where all the snow is going to be. talking about raleigh a little bit ago, still seeing delays in raleigh. that's what raleigh's traffic looks like. that spot on 640, that's what the cars l

but the raleigh-durham area got hit real hard in the afternoon, and we had some four-to-five-hour backupsdouble-checking any abandoned cars to make sure people aren't still left out on the highways and we just want to make sure there's no further loss of life. we've lost two people across the state in the past 24 hours in accidents and right now the concern is the safety because of potential more outages of power. >> i want to ask you about the power outages. the statistic we shared earlier is it only takes a quarter inch of ice to bring down power lines. you have parts of your state that are significantly worse than that. i don't know the exact numbers. i know it's well over 100,000 people could be without power in this kind of weather. are you worried, are you confident you can get power back to these people? what about these people who don't have power at home? >> we have several hundred thousand people without power. the main challenge for us, very similar to the roads, it's over such a large area of our state, from the mountains all the way to the coast, which by car is about ten hou
