"going home to glory" is the title of the book proposal that we circulated to new york publishers in the summer of 1976 julie and i had moved to new york from washington that summer and ben stein, our host today, encouraged us to start considering some publishing interests that he had been countered about us, and so we circulated his proposal and we did so at ben's suggestion. we were seeing a lot of ben in those days, both in new york and in washington when he was a young editorial writer. one of the youngest in the history, one
