let's bring in diane dwyer, you were there? >> reporter: yes, fbi agents right now are interviewing leland yee here. he was one of about 30 people arrested in what is called a massive fbi sting. i was one of the only journalists on the scene. as you mentioned, they led him out in handcuffs after spending about an hour and a half inside interviewing him. he was arrested for his work and campaign work. yee is a democrat that served in the assembly as a san francisco supervisor and school board back to the 1980s. one of the promises he just received an award for was to increase transparency in government. it was part of a larger operation. here is what the fbi told us a couple hours ago. >> this morning the fbi is currently executing multible search and arrest warrants throughout the bay area. i have no more comments at the time because of on going investigations. >> also arrested was raymond chow, a chinese gangster. since his release he says he has reformed. keith jackson was also arrested. he is a well known political consultan

i'm diane dwyer. terry mcsweeney is off tonight. we begin with the search for the missing plane from malaysia. 25 countries are now part of the search effort. at this point it's mostly about searching the vast areas of land and water and collecting as much data as possible. nbc's an mahbell roberts has more on the investigation. >> police are now looking closely into the lives of the pilot and co-pilot, what they do, their interests and also critically their psychological state. the conclusion that whoever is behind this, whoever disabled the communications systems and flew the plane must have significant aviation experience which leads investigators to the two pilots as possible suspect. one thing though was made very clear at this morning's press conference. the two men had not asked to fly to go. investigators have been speaking to the men's family and friends, both homes searched. the pilot was 353 and built a flight simulator at his home and this is now of major interest to investigators. it's being dismantled and looked at for

diane dwyer is off tonight. >>> this evening, all clear in one south bay neighborhood where a manhunt had residents sheltering in place today. a deputy opened fire after the suspect allegedly rammed three squad cars. that suspect now in custody. kimberly tere joining us at the sheriff's office in san jose with the details. >> reporter: the sheriff's office is still in the middle of this investigation, but i can certainly tell you what we've learned so far. the call came in about 5:30 this morning. a resident on croy road reported a suspicious car. the suspect sped down the driveway ramming his car into the patrol vehicles when they arrived. a deputy fired at least one shot toward the suspect whose car continued down the roadway, until it crashed in a ravine. the suspect took off. >> based on information we had at the time, we believe that that suspect was armed and dangerous. what we did was we did a reverse 911 to all the residents in the area advising them to stay in their home. lock their doors and shelter in place. >> reporter: the sheriff's emergency response team with assistance
