when officers tried to stop a vehicle on dyer street near meteor way. according to police the driver tried to escape on foot but pulled out a handgun and allegedly opened fire. the suspect died later at a hospital. we'll have more details on the story at 5:30. >>> in san jose police continue to investigate an officer involved shooting. they killed the suspect after a high speed chase. the 20-minute pursuit began yesterday around noon. during the chase the suspect rammed three police officers and aimed a gun at officers. you're looking at part of the chase. when he blew out a tire and had to leave the vehicle, officers say he appeared to be hiding a gun and that's when they opened fire. neighbors heard the chase. >> i'm glad they caught that stupid guy. he was going to hurt somebody. then all of the sudden i heard the shots and got the hell out of the way. when you're in vietnam and you hear shots you get out of the way. >> police have not released the suspect's identity. >>> authorities say a car full of teenagers crashed in oakland this morning while o

a lot of the design has already happened, so the question is, going back to admiral dyer's comments thisare we early enough in the process to have the confidence in the systems that we are developing. so that's a question. the attention to detail is another aspect of that. the design detail, you can see small commuting see things in these accidents that you didn't expect. and there is incredible amount of detail that's gone into the shuttle program in terms of understanding it and trying to get to save situation. another thing that happens is, as you become successful, and this showed up in the shuttle program before each accident, you become successful, you're knocking flights are, they're going well, it can breed overconfidence, which leads you to other problems that you see crop up in these failures. there are political influences in the shuttle program, the flight dates, scheduled pressure. there's obviously tension, political tension around our programs today. so does have an effect and it can affect safety. so a question is, i'm not trying to answer it, i'm just asking questions, o
