dylan was a flapper. whenever he got excited or happy, he jumped up and down and flapped as hard as he could. one day i asked dylan, why do you flap? in all honesty because dylan had underdeveloped language skills, i wasn't expecting him to answer, but he did. he said "because i'm a beautiful butterfly." it has been said that something as small as a butterfly flapping its wings can cause a hurricane halfway around the world. that a small change or single occurrence in one place can result in large differences elsewhere. it redefines the future. dylan is our butterfly. all of the children and adults who lost their lives last week are our butterflies. and if one butterfly can cause a hurricane, then 26 butterflies can change the world. i refuse to accept this as a senseless tragedy. i believe dylan and the others that died with him, are catalysts and while i selfishly wish my child was still with me and while i fear the empty space in my heart may never be filled, i'm also at peace to take comfort in the kn

investigators say dylan quick unleashed a rapid and frightening attack on 14 people as he walked through the hallway at the lone star college campus in cypress, texas. cassie foe says it was surreal to watch the horrific scene unfold. she was in a classroom when she heard students screaming. how in the world did someone stab 14 people? >> he used his backpack as a shield and gets close to the person and bumps into them and stabs them statement. >> reporter: so it was that quick? >> that quick and out and then walks the other way. >> reporter: so he's walking down the hall and leaving a trail of pain behind him? is >> exactly. he was stabbing people in his way. there was no pattern. there was no method. it was completely random. >> reporter: 14 people were wounded in the surprising assault. four had to be airlifted to hospitals. for many, it was all over before they could figure out what had happened. the wounds were gruesome, a piece of a blade broke off in one victim's cheek. others were stabbed in the throat and face. as students ran from the chaos, a group of three students went after

i just talked about dylan. dylan's parents came from england, came all the way to sandy hook, connecticut for this school. because of the programs that dawn had built there. and if they ever had any doubt as to whether they had chosen the right leader, well, they were confident of that when she ran to the gunman to try to stop the carnage from getting any worse. let me tell you about one more little girl, age 6, madeline hsu. madeleine was again one of the youngest victims that day. she was a shy and relatively quiet 6-year-old, but there were certain things that would make her light up. a lot of these kids loved animals, and madeleine loved dogs. she lit up around dogs. it was her passion. she was an avid reader and she loved running and she loved dancing. and she more than anything else loved to wear bright, flowery dresses, matched her personality. she shared a bed with two of her sisters. they their own rooms but they loved each other so much that they chose to sleep together at night. and they're going to

dylan dreyer is here with a check of our forecast. good morning. >> good morning. that big storm system that affected most of the country this past week finally gone but we're already talking about the next one trying to move in. here's a look at the jet stream pattern dividing the country from north to south. south is warm. north is cold. we are going to see more snow possible because of those little disturbances rotating across the northern plains and across the great lakes. lighter snow showers through michigan today and we will see some snow in idaho and western montana turning into a bigger snowstorm for north dakota and minnesota tomorrow. today mainly just rain showers across the northern plains. some lighter nuisance snow showers across northern new england as well. that's a look at the weather across the country. here's a peek out your window. morning, 40s and 50s with patchy low clouds pushed in by a sea breeze, which has the winds onshore 15 into concord this morning. might see high clouds passing by this afternoon as storm systems brush by to the north.
