. >>> nbc's dylan dreyer here with the forecast. dylan, looks like the weather is on the move. >> this say crazy weather. we have the northern parts of minnesota and tornadoes will be seen across the gulf states today. you can see where that warm area is, though, in the southeastern part of the country. and back behind it, that's where that warm air is. it's that clash that is creating a potential for heavy storms. heavy rain is falling from the great lakes to the gulf coast. we have heavy snow falling in and around minneapolis into duluth as well where there could be 9 to 12 inches possible. on the west coast, though, we're looking at a couple showers in northern and central nevada. other than that a little light rain in seattle put portland should be fairly quiet. most of california nation and sunny as well. temperaturewise, upper 50s in the northwest. 60s in the central oregon. 70s, though, in l.a. today and 80s in the desert southwest. so that's where all the warm air is in the west coast, and we should see that cooler air, thoug

. >>> just ahead, dylan dreyer joins us with your wednesday weather forecast. >>> nbc terrorism analystlint van zandt on the leads in the boston bombing investigation. >>> meet the heroes who stepped up and stood out to help those most in need. you're watching "early today." >>> good morning and welcome back. a lot of rain and a lot of snow in most parts of the country out there right now. with the chance of about 6 to 12 inches of snow today across western and central nebraska. we also have the threat of very strong storms mainly in the plains states today with hail and damaging wind gusts and also some isolated tornadoes, especially across oklahoma. out on the west coast, though, things are pretty quiet. a couple of spotty showers are winding down right now in the pacific northwest, but they'll try to redevelop later on today with a chance of some sprinkles. but really we'll squeeze out sunshine, too, in the upper 50s to lower 60s in the northwest. then on thursday more showers do start to work back in, but it looks sunny and warm in southwestern california. temperatures topping out i

dylan dreyer has the weather for across the country today.e have a strong cold front dividing the country in half. ahead of it, strong thunderstorms and back behind it, we have heavy snowfall. and the snow is coming down especially heavy across south dakota and will fill in across parts of western and central nebraska where they could end up with another 6 to 12 inches of snow out of this snowstorm. winds will be gusty, too. it is going to be reducing visibilities. ahead of it across indiana through ohio and kentucky right now, we have stronger storms with a lot of cloud to ground lightning. the biggest threat of severe weather today will be back across oklahoma and southeastern kansas. there is the threat of isolated tornadoes occurring later on this afternoon and evening. but elsewhere in that area in yellow there, that's where we're also going to see wind damage with some stronger gustier storms and also the cloud to ground lightning. it is going to be a little bit busy back across the plains and then it slowly spreads eastward tomorrow. >

dylan dreyer is here with a check of our forecast. good morning. >> good morning. that big storm system that affected most of the country this past week finally gone but we're already talking about the next one trying to move in. here's a look at the jet stream pattern dividing the country from north to south. south is warm. north is cold. we are going to see more snow possible because of those little disturbances rotating across the northern plains and across the great lakes. lighter snow showers through michigan today and we will see some snow in idaho and western montana turning into a bigger snowstorm for north dakota and minnesota tomorrow. today mainly just rain showers across the northern plains. some lighter nuisance snow showers across northern new england as well. that's a look at the weather across the country. here's a peek out your window. morning, 40s and 50s with patchy low clouds pushed in by a sea breeze, which has the winds onshore 15 into concord this morning. might see high clouds passing by this afternoon as storm systems brush by to the north.

. >> if you do, you have dylan dreyer here with the weather. they have been experiencing serious flooding. >> because of the rain, the rivers have been trying to crest. most of the rivers have crested and are receding at this point. you can see the river flood warnings throughout the midwest and in missouri several rivers will not crest until early next week so flooding is going to be a major concern out that way and then we get into the spring melt with all of the snow melt especially back into fargo where precautions are being taken for the potential of perhaps record breaking flooding out in that area once temperatures do start to warm up. temps are not warming up yet. we're seeing cold air working back into the northern plains into the plains themselves with temperatures today only in the 40s and 50s and in the northeast it will be seasonable with the rain coming to an end. temperatures should top out in the upper 50s and lower 60s. we will see increasing sunshine across the eas >>> you're looking at very mild temperatures especially here i

dylan dreyer is here with the forecast. it's a mess. good afternoon now. >> it is such a mess. have a friend in iowa who said it has been raining, snowing, or flooding what feels like every day for the past three weeks straight. it has been brutal in the midwest. we still have all of these flood warnings posted in wisconsin, illinois, into iowa, and even into missouri. we have some rivers that won't crest until tuesday. so most of the rivers, although they have crested, they're still flooding their banks but starting to recede. we are still going to have to keep an eye out for the pocket of major flooding across parts of missouri into early this week. the problem now is we have more rain. today it's pretty light in nature across minnesota, back through iowa. but this is going to strengthen into a bigger rain event for tuesday. and that's going to produce perhaps another two inches of rain across parts of the midwest. just as those rivers start to recede, they could end uprising again. on top of that, we have the snow melt that's going to occur across the dakotas and a lot of sn

nbc meteorologist dylan dreyer is here with the forecast. good morning, dylan. >> good morning, alex. that big storm system that affected most of the country this past week is finally gone. we are going to see some colder temperatures work into the northeast. but, at least the rain is moving on out of here. it's 41 in new york city. but 30 degrees in minneapolis, where some lighter snow showers are still possible today. we will also see some light snow across northern michigan today, as well, with a couple inches of snow possible. there is a bigger system that's gathering itself across western montana. that is slowly going to spread eastward. it is falling as rain across central and eastern montana. just north of billings. but it is going to cool down as this storm continues to develop. and it does look like we will see more accumulating snow. especially northeastern montana into western north dakota. that's where we do have the winter storm warnings posted. winter weather advisories in purple there through central and northern minnesota, as

dylan dreyer is in islands, new jersey, for comcast cares day while i prepare my next fashion segment. >> good morning, guys. i am watching some hard work here. we've got firefighters from all over the region, and they are just destroying this dock so we can build a new boardwalk here in highlands, new jersey. a way of just getting this whole area back to normal as we're coming up on the six-month anniversary of hurricane sandy. we are seeing a lot of hard work here. a lot of volunteers turning out and really bringing this place back to what it used to be. it's just so heartwarming to see how many volunteers have come out here today. weather-wise, we couldn't ask for better weather in the northeast, but we do have to focus on another area that's getting hit hard with flooding. it is in the northern plains, especially in fargo where we do still have flood watches. not so much because of heavy rain, but because of the snow melt. temperatures will get into the 70s. flood stage is 18 feet. by the time we get to wednesday, we're going to see the river >>> a look outside this morning shows

nbc meteorologist dylan dreyer is joining me with more on what we kex expect across the country. good morning, dylan. >> good morning, alex. the weekend finally here. a lot of people waiting for a warm-up. and in the plains it will warm up pretty nicely. we're going to see that slowly spread eastward as we go into tomorrow, as well. 57 degrees to start off the day in kansas city. in the northeast it's pretty chilly. temperatures this morning only in the mid 30s. we even have some snow to talk about. it's isolated to extreme parts of northern minnesota and wisconsin. you can see it is moving to the north and east. but back towards fargo we do have more sleet and freezing rain type situation. that is going to develop into more snow for parts of central and northern minnesota. where we could end up with about 3 to 6 inches of snow in those areas. but that's really the only place we are going to see the snow. elsewhere, we could see some scattered showers and storms today in kwhaug. 64 degrees. we'll top out in the 40s and 50s in the northeast and up into new england. 55 today in wash

. >>> dylan dreyer is here. >> hey, good morning.ally good news in the weather department for the eastern half of the country. a whole change in the weather pattern. this is what you want for warm air in the eastern half of the country. we'll see a nice warm-up starting today, lasting through at least the middle of next week. you see where that "l" is? that's where a big storm is developing back through the rockies. look at all the winter weather watches. the blizzard watches. the winter weather advisories. we are looking at the chance of some spots in wyoming and south dakota to pick up perhaps nearly a foot of snow. casper, wyoming will pick up a foot. so a huge storm out that way. keep in mind, over the next 72 hours. with temperatures in the 50s and we will see drizzle at times off and on right around sunrise to around lunchtime with brief afternoon clearing, but then a better chance of seeing april showers drops in after sunset through early monday morning and the wins kick up as you get into the forecast. any chance of showers

dylan dreyer has more on the storms and a first check on the forecast. >> good morning. we are going to see more severe weather but on the backside of the storm we had a lot of snowfall. look at these shots coming in out of fargo, north dakota where the wind was gusting. most of north dakota ended up with eight to ten inches of snowfall. the roads were covered in snow and ice. also in minnesota, winded up with a foot of snowfall. south dakota had 30 inches of snow. we have severe storms in the forecast today with wind gusts up to 60 miles an hour. today it is mostly across the carolinas. you can see where tornado watches are still in effect along with heavy rain that will eventually move to the northeast by late this morning and in to this afternoon, as well. that's a look at your local forecast. we'll get to your local forecast after this message. t after this. >> so again that was your local and your national forecast. >> got it, dylan, thank you very much. >>> big story in washington this morning the senate agreeing to move forward with the first major gun control leg

dial dylan dreyer is here with the forecast. i can't believe it's april 13. >> it doesn't feel like it. we are actually talking about another winter storm moving into north dakota with perhaps another foot of snow possible in north dakota and minnesota, too. as we get into monday. so temperatures are well below average by about 20 degrees. it's 33 right now in minneapolis. only 38 degrees in chicago. 50 in new york city. we will see temperatures warm into the mid to upper 50s in the northeast which is closer to average than it is in the northern plains. doesn't look like much right now, but we are going to see that little bit of rain and snow across montana develop into our next big storm system, and it comes with a lot of wind, too. so not only will we end up with about 6 to 12 inches of snow through north dakota and northwestern minnesota where throes winter storm warnings are in effect, but winds will be gusty enough to create those blizzard-like conditions possible tonight and into tomorrow and monday, too. here is a look at

nbc meteorologist dylan dreyer is very brave and joining me in studio as we ask, okay, what's up with this and what can we expect across the country now? >> it's going to get better. i can promise you that. we're going to see warmer weather work in as early as tomorrow. we should get into the 60s in new york and 70s in washington, d.c., so the peak has been pushed back. now we're going to see the peak cherry blossoms up until about april 10th. that's the time frame now, april 6th to the 10th. 44 in new york city. only 49 in washington, d.c., but look at the warm-up in the middle of the country where all that yellow is. that's what's going to start spreading eastward as we go throughout the rest of the weekend. we have some snow but it is isolated to northern minnesota and northern wisconsin. you can see it is coming down pretty heavily across northeastern minnesota, and it's in that area we could end up with about six inches of snow with some isolated higher amounts. i'm sure that area even though they're used to the cold not really up for another spring snowstorm, but it's happening

. >> dylan dreyer has a check on the forecast. >> good morning.oking at pretty big storm system moving across the country. it's just a cold front but out ahead of it, we have severe storms. back behind it, we have more snow and it looks like we could end up with another 6 to 12 inches of snow as it does start to increase across parts of south dakota and nebraska. you see western and central nebraska, could be an area that gets 6 to 12 inches of snow. we are also looking at the potential for severe storms today especially down across oklahoma, southeastern kansas. tornadoes are certainly a possible later this afternoon and into this evening. elsewhere we will see a lot of large hail and damaging wind gusts. in the northeast we started off with a couple of lighter showers in and around the boston area and down across new york city too but those will move on out of here and we will see increasing sunshine in the northeast. we should top out around 70 in new york city today. 58 boston. on thursday, temperatures will continue to stay in the 50s and 60s
