dylan dreyer is here with that forecast. hi dylan. >> today he's actually a little off. it's a little spring-like in and around new york and new jersey today. but the way this winter has been going, i'm sure he is spot-on for those six more weeks of winter. we do have a cold front moving through. clouds during the evening, actually a good thing temperature-wise, because it helps to blanket in that warmer air that we picked up through the day today that will keep temperatures in the lower 40s through game time. although as people travel and they are out and about later on tonight, we could see a couple of snow flurries move into this area. that's this bigger storm system that's really getting its act together, especially through parts of oklahoma where the roads are very slippery right now with the heavier snow falling. we also have snow and ice in and around dallas and across northern arkansas. a closer look shows you, we are seeing that wintery mix in dallas although you head south. you head a little farther north and we are seeing all snow. oklahoma city seeing heavier

meteorologist dylan dreyer with that part of the story for us tonight. good evening. >> reporter: good evening, brian, we are making a run here in chicago for the third coldest winter on record. in fact, 22 days so far have been below zero. the all-time record is 25 in green bay. in duluth, minnesota, they have been sub-zero 63 times breaking their record. and all of this cold is freezing up the great lakes. take a look at the satellite imagery from september. by mid-february an incredible 88% of the great lakes were frozen. in a typical winter it is hard to get 50% of the great lakes frozen. and it is not just frozen lakes but it is frozen rivers from illinois to pennsylvania. ice jams are the concern, because during the next thaw when the water has nowhere to go instead it will go into homes and yards. so flooding will be a big issue. now meteorological spring will start soon, but will feel like winter, for the next two weeks it should be 15 to 25 degrees below average. >> dylan dryer winding up our weather coverage in chicago. >>> and there is a weath

dylan dreyer is in the middle of it, joins us from chatham, massachusetts. dylan, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, erica. don't let the sunshine out here fool you. it is absolutely freezing out here with windchills well down into the single digits. it was a nasty day yesterday, parts of the western cape ended up with about 15 inches of snow in areas like sandwich. here in chatham we didn't pick up as much snow because we had a lot of ice and it was a wind-swept ice. look at these poles. you can see one side of the pole is totally coated in snow and ice, and that is now just the latest danger in what has been an epic winter. >> it's crazy. we've had so much this year already. and we're getting another blizzard. >> reporter: blizzard conditions pounding the northeast coast overnight with heavy snow driven by winds gusting up to 45 miles per hour. it's the second major snowstorm to hit new england in 48 hours. before it's over a fresh, heavy wet blanket on top of layers of packed snow from an endless winter. >> i feel like it's siberia. >> reporter: know

nbc's dylan dreyer is in oakland, new jersey, that's about 30 miles to the northwest of manhattan. lan, good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning, matt. i think this house pretty much sums up how we're all feeling around here right now. we are in the middle of another round of poorly timed snow. it's a quick mover, but it dumps a decent amount of snow in a short period of time. and that time is right during rush hour. >> chicago got slammed just in time for monday's evening rush hour. >> anybody that says they're used to this because they live in chicago is a liar. i've lived here my whole life. it's horrific every time. >> reporter: well over 1,000 flights cancelled at chicago airports. thundersnow at the university of illinois. on interstate 94 in western michigan, a 4-mile multicar truck pileup in whiteout conditions. >> started out with a semi jackknife, another semi hitting that semi. >> 3 inches plus as the storm moves east towards philadelphia. already, cities in the eastern united states have seen huge increases in snowfall this winter. toledo, ohio, over 42 inches more

but we want to begin with dylan dreyer who is in king of prussia 20 miles north of philadelphia. dylan, good morning to you. >> good morning, savannah. i mean, enough with the snow already. last night we had another 2 inches of snowfall here in this area. and what makes it more dangerous is the fact that as temperatures drop, all of this snow and slush from yesterday is freezing over. now as power crews are trying to keep up, the fear is this storm is responsible for deaths across seven states. now it could become more deadly. >> reporter: far from the dog days of summer -- >> thick and heavy. >> reporter: so heavy, it can tear down trees. >> this one does make me nervous. >> reporter: this storm that stretched from texas to new england left most of the east on ice. down wires made driving dangerous. >> a corvette in the snow? >> yeah, i don't know what made them come out. >> reporter: in north carolina, they cleared away a band of cars. in virginia, one highway worker was killed, crushed by another truck while a snowplow struck and killed a 36-year-old woman in brooklyn. another

let's go to dylan dreyer here with the forecast. we trust you a lot more than the ground hog. >> i just want to point out that there morning there it was foggy. so i don't know how he saw his shadow. i just think we always get stuck with six more weeks of winter. but ironically, some of the nicest weather we've had in new york and new jersey. most of this winter it's going to be 42 degrees by game time. we're still looking at this cold front to move through the area. might give us some clouds later on today. but the clouds actually blanket in the warmer temperatures come evening time. so that's why it is going to be still in the lower 40s after topping out around 50 degrees or so. this is a nasty cold front. we have a couple rain showers in the northeast, but watch what's going on down through the southern plains. icing in dallas. snow through parts of oklahoma. you can see in buffalo, new york, we're seeing some snow. but as it gets closer to new york, new jersey, eastern pennsylvania, through new england, it is warm enough for mos

let's check in with dylan dreyer who's live in king of prussia, pennsylvania. old but the sun is out after what was a miserable day yesterday. we saw heavy snow, then we saw rain and last night we had more snow on top of that. you can see just a winter wonderland in all these neighborhoods. but the problem is that rain that we had yesterday, the snow just absorbs it like a sponge. look what it did to the roads here. i mean everything is just covered in this slush. it is making it such a mess. and, you know, all streets are like this, especially in the neighborhoods. but we ended up with about 10 inches of snow, then another 2 inches of snow last night. and actually for philadelphia, this is the most 6-inch snowstorms they have seen in one season on record, so we are breaking records all up and down the east coast. we saw record snowfall in new york city, we saw record snowfall in worcester, massachusetts. philadelphia schools are closed again today. it looks like they'll be going through mid-june as of right now. yesterday i did have a chance to have a snowball

nbc's dylan dreyer always seems to have the's. >> i tree. this is a good pattern to continue to see the rain out in parts of california. elsewhere we have snow moving through the plains. both of those systems won't really amount to all that much. you can see a closer look. some lighter snow moving through pittsburgh and buffalo. out in california, this is that pineapple express, so another day today of heavy rain and heavy mountain snow as that moisture just streams in. we should get a break on monday. then more heavy rain is likely as we go into tuesday night and wednesday as well. you can see as much as two to three, four, five inches across parts of k and then that translated to feet of mountain snow. we're also looking at some snowy conditions in interior parts of washington state through the rockies and then lighter snow even stretching as far south as northern mississippi and into alabama and even northern georgia. so atlanta will be on alert, especially by the time we go into tuesday. they could end up with another inch or two of some

dylan dreyer is in chatham, massachusetts, where the storm hit the area really hard. hi, dylan. >> hey, alex. it was a miserable day yesterday, and especially last night as the snow came down fast and heavy, especially in areas across the western cape where they ended up with about 15 inches of snow on the western edge of cape cod. we are in the eastern edge, where it was extremely windy. we saw wind gusts up near 60 miles per hour. you can see the direction it came in from. look at these polls and this is what we're seeing on poll poles cars. you have all this snow and ice that came in sideways. now it is completely frozen over. all of the rain is frozen solid. windchills are well down into the single digits. areas are starting to run out of salt. so there's the possible with the next storm possible on tuesday that some towns could be paying double or triple what they normally would for salt just because it's been such a brutal winter. so here we are possibly going to see another round of snow as we go into monday night, especially on tuesday, so the relentless winter

we will get to nbc's dylan dreyer who's in phoenixville in just a moment.i think we're maybe having a little bit of technical problems. can you hear me? >> reporter: good morning, savannah. we are right now about 20 miles to the northwest of philadelphia, and the snow is coming down real hard. keep in mind, this is an area that is still picking up the pieces from the last storm they had just about two weeks ago. and this is a very common scene. trees toppled right in front of people's homes. now, the way today is going to set up. right now it's 30 degrees or so. the snow is still fairly light and fluffy. but as temperatures warm up, it's going to get a lot heavier in nature. then we're going to switch over to some sleet and freezing rain. that's going to create that glaze on top of all this snow. then we're going to turn over into straight rain. that sounds like a good thing. but what happens is, the snow is like a sponge. it absorbs all of that water. and it really adds weight to the trees, to the power lines, to the roofs of people's homes. and we will mo
