. >> megan was diagnosed with dystonia, involves involuntary contractions of your muscles, so she turned to the institute in new york city. artistic director has been teaching the approach for twenty years. it's a technique that corrects hand injuries and helps musicians avoid further injury. >> they come from certain movements we make, that we are taught to do, such as curling the fingers. stretching them. >> . putting them on the piano, one finger at a time. strengthen them. >> when megan had her first lesson, she could barely move her hands. >> at first, we couldn't go to the piano, because i had fists. they looked like this. we worked on some simple things, like turning a doorknob and using the same motions i would be using at the piano. >> the approach has to do with possessing the knowledge of how to play tension free. >> in two lessons, megan felt relief and three months later, she had full use of her hands. >> there is more sunlight in there or something. i could feel more open, you know, with what we were doing. what we were working on. incredible. >> now she is applying to coll
