joining me now is e.j. dionne.od to be with you, reverend. >> e.j., another governor comes out caving on obama care. >> you know, i'm really glad you're doing this segment because i think there is something very interesting going on among republicans and you can see it in what they say. i went back and looked and last summer, senator ted cruz said if we're going to repeal it, we've got to do so now or it will remain with us forever. why did he believe that? he said people would get hook opd obama care. now, if republicans actually believe that obama care was going to be a total failure, then they wouldn't believe that people would come to see it as an effective program that couldn't be repealed. and so i think that's why you've got all this pressure to get rid of it before it takes effect. and a lot of republican governors have looked at this and said on the medicare expansion, for example, this is really helpful to hospitals all over their state. >> you have ten republican governors so far that have caved on exact

i'm sure evan and e.j. would say the same thing. they have heard reports of these small numbers of potential somalis, who have made their way back to support al shabaab, a a the fact of the matter is this is a global challenge for the united states. every time we've seen attacks that may have been generated through the united states, it's usually include self radicalization. whether they're connected to al qaeda in yemen or al qaeda in north africa or now in syria, we have to be very worried about the transitory nature of self radicalization, what it means. because if they're not going to somalia, they're probably going to syria right now. >> how much does this complicate the president's agenda as he heads to the united nations this week. obviously, e.j., the general assembly meeting and syria and iran were at the top of that agenda but clearly we have this situation in kenya now as well. >> first of all, on congressman king, i'm sure those numbers are perfectly plausible. i think the question is to be very careful that we act again

e.j., let me say this. somewhere in your answer, i heard exactly what is tearing at a lot of people, including me, concern about the military strike, but at the same time and war weary, but at the same time worried about security if there is a security, a real potential problem. i live in new york when 9/11 happened. i was here that day. so the president indicated that he understands the country is war weary. let me play that, because maybe this understanding will also put him in the realm of the argument and therefore why should we go forward. let me show his response to the nation being war-weary. >> i knew this was going to be a heavy lift. i said that on saturday when i said we're going to take it to congress. you know, our polling operations are pretty good. i tend to have a pretty good sense of what current popular opinion is. and for the american people who have been through other a decade of war now with enormous sacrifice in blood and treasure, any hint of further military entanglements in the midd
