here's 7's jennifer eagan in dorchester. jen, how is it going there? >> jennifer: christa, so far so good. the cold weather, as you know, has been a problem for the mbta in the past, both here on the red line on the commuter rail as well. overnight to try and combat the problem and get ahead of any potential problems, the "t" was running empty trains on at least some of the lines. we spotted an emmy train running on the red line. on one of our last very cold mornings, the "t" had a couple of major problems that the state's transportation secretary attributed to freezing back on january 5th, a commuter rail train went off the tracks between andover and lawrence. no passengers were on board. no one was hurt. but it happened around 4:00 a.m. and affected the commute for much of the day. also that same day, here on the red line, the track broke by a stop in savin hill. again, both cases blamed on the cold. again, overnight the "t" has been running empty trains on at least some of the tracks to try and get ahead of any potential problems because of the bitt

let's head out to jennifer eagan. jen, this virus is particularly concerning for pregnant women, right? >> jennifer: sarah, that's right. the zika virus first started showing up in brazil last spring. caribbean. the man from boston who contracted it had traveled to an affected area. he's now recovering. in most people the zika virus won't cause any symptoms. in about 20% they will develop mild symptoms which last about a week, fever, rash, joint pain, conjunctivitis. it's only transmitted by mosquito bite. the real concern is for pregnant women or women who plan to get pregnant. the zika virus can cause microcephaly, a birth defect that affects the size of the baby's brain and head. doctors say women who are want to reconsider travel plans to affected areas. in fact, some airlines are allowing passengers the delay or get a refund for their trip. health experts say the zika virus could spread down south, but the type of mosquito that carries it is not common to massachusetts. we're live in boston this morning, jennifer

jennifer eagan joins us where one of those tickets were sold. jen? >> jennifer: sarah, good morning. if you bought your ticket at this charlestown convenience store, you may want to check your numbers. someone who bought their ticket here won $1 million. this is the 777 convenience store on marek amann street. that person got a small chunk of the jackpot. three people matched up all five numbers and the powerball. first we heard a winning ticket was sold in california. then overnight it was announced winning tickets were also sold in florida and tennessee. [chanting] well, in california it was party inside the 7-eleven that sold the winning ticket. as far as we know, the winner was not there, but the store clerk and other people were elated someone local there won. and very proud we sell that much money ticket. >> it's exciting to know that somebody from our little city won. it's so exciting. i'm excited for them. i don't even know who it is. >> jennifer: here are the winning numbers: 4, 8, 19, 27, 34 and the powerball, 10. again, a $1 million ticket

let's go to jennifer eagan in fall river. jen, this isn't the first time something like this has happened at that store we understand. >> jennifer: christa, it's not. the clerk here has fought off a robber before. this time he says he noticed the man hanging around the store in the days before the attack. in seconds the suspect rushed the counter with a knife. the store clerk tells us the man >> then he jumped on my counter me money. give me money." around 9:30 sunday morning. the suspect biked to this fall river store before going inside and attacking the man behind the counter. the clerk reached down and grabbed cash and his own knife, the one they use in the store deli. >> he hit my face. i thought, oh, my god, i'm going to die. continued. off. >> i was scared. if he stabbed me, i would die. >> jennifer: the two struggled near the refrigerator. the clerk pushed the man toward the door, sending him scrambling away. it wasn't the first time something like this has happened. in 2014, the ownered scared off another would-be ro

let's go to 7's jennifer eagan. jen, it sounds like police have now recovered a key piece of evidence in this case? >> jennifer: christa, good morning. yes, police believe they found the car involved in this case about two miles away from here by symphony hall in boston. right now the focus is on that vehicle and an apartment here on st. paul street where this all started. police say this is the ford focus spotted speeding away from the scene in brookline. it was first captured on surveillance video as calls came in about two people in the street. >> i hear the car screeching. i come around here, and i thought it was going to hit the car in front of the church. then a kid jumped out and left his door open. heck. >> jennifer: one man had been shot, the other stabbed and possibly shot. clothes and two cell phones were left behind. >> multiple people stabbed. i got two people stabbed. >> jennifer: it happened just before noon. kids had to shelter in police at three nearby elementary schools. police are connecting this

let's head out live to boston. 7's jennifer eagan is live this morning. jen? >> jennifer: christa, good morning. there could be more delays this morning, as you mentioned. crews have been replacing part of the rail along the red line on the longfellow bridge. so if you use that stretch, a heads up. it's been going on for at least those new tracks settle, trains have to slow down to just 10mph over the bridge, and that speed restriction caused severe delays yesterday. the mbta's general manager says the tracks need at least 48 hours to settle. so if you use this stretch of the red line, there could still be delays... there were still delays last tuesday morning because of this. now, transportation officials discussed other issues on the red line at a meeting yesterday. the red line has a backlog of $1.5 billion of upgrades and replacements. this as ridership on the red line grew almost 15% in the past eight years, outpacing other lines. also even in the nice weather, last july to november, trains ran on time less than 75% of the time. again, there could be dela

jennifer eagan is at the courthouse in fall river today. jen? >> reporter: christa, in fact, 36-year-old jose sanchez just faced a judge a few moments ago. police here in fall river say they were on an unrelated calling yesterday when an officer recognized sanchez. at least in part from the surveillance video. the suspect jumped up on the counter. >> he said "give me money. give me money." >> >> reporter: knife in hand. when the clerk at the market took out a knife of his own, the two started swinging at each other. that was sunday morning around 9:30. today the alleged attacker is under arrest. while masked, an armed assault to murder. police used the surveillance video and description of the suspect to arrest jose torado sanchez. at one point during the fight, both men dropped their knives, the attacker rearmed himself with the clerk's weapon. >> i'm lucky. i have a life. >> reporter: this is not the first time a clerk has fought off an attacker at that store. a similar situation, sanchez is being held without bail, meanwhile. >> kris: also on

jennifer eagan has more on what is expected. >>> rochelle bond indicted back in december. she will be arraigned here she faces charges in connection with her daughter's murder. bond is charged with being an accessory after the fact and larceny. she's accused of continuing to accept public assistance after she knew bella was dead. for months 2-year-old bella bond known as baby do. the toddler's identity was a mystery on june 25th. the investigation led police to rochelle bond and her boyfriend michael mccarthy. prosecutors say mccarthy killed bella bond. her body left in the water out of south boston. both rochelle and michael pleaded not guilty when their cases were in district court. mccarthy charged with first-degree murder. he was also indicted in december. he's due suffolk superior court on january 11th. >>> also on 7 a local mother facing charges accused of leaving her baby girl out in the cold locked in car at renthem nicole oliverio has more on the 911 call that police received. nicole? >> fortunately once police got here they realized the girl was okay. she's taken
