director eaken. >> vice chair eaken: thank you so much. thank you to staff working on this project. i know it's extremely challenging. we've heard so many comments from the public. i'm sure we have lot of people here to comment today. i wanted to ask some of the questions just in case those can address some of the comments we'll hear today. i know we've talked a lot about the goal to meet the budget to match the available resources that we had. we talked about the extensive design of the street. i wanted to ask a really specific question for the record, if you're able to answer. just to get a sense of how much did we save towards that available resources that we had in this first 6 to 8 segments by eliminating that sidewalk bike lane. i know that's an issue that so many people care about. i want to make sure we understand the numbers. >> we're saving $67 million from the redesign. that's primarily not having to do utility relocation. in order to go sidewalk level bikeway, we were widening the sidewalk by two feet and repurposing the first 12 feet for the 8-foot bikeway and 4-foot bu

and then director eaken. >> vice-chair eaken: thank you so much, madam chair. i just want to say that i'm strongly supportive of this project. i think that it seems like the kind of project that has outside impact, it's not a very long stretch of roadway, but it will eliminate what we perceive to be a significant delay. and to director heminger's point as a reminder that this agency as a goal has 80% of all walking or bike or transit in by 2030, and we're nowhere near that with our current projects. and my question with the project is just if you could just let us know if you have this information on hand from kind of the initial conceptualization and implementation, what would have been the timeline to get this project approved? >> is that for the 4th street bridge specifically or the larger title program? >> vice-chair eaken: just taking this piece, for example, i'm curious how quickly we're turning this around? >> we are targeting the imelementation if approved today as early as next week. it will take a lot of work for the shops to prepare the materials and

director eaken. >> director eaken? >> i am happy to defer to the next question. go ahead. >> i just had one quick question to respond to a couple, several things that came up with the taxi operators who spoke this evening. how would one do a street hail on market street? i know our staff are not taxi driver, but just your thoughts on that. do you want to take that? >> i can take that. every single block face of market street would be accessible by a taxi. the thing that would be different is that you wouldn't be able to have a taxi driver cruising up and down market street to look for a fare. and on the west side with a proposal to add the required right turn that wouldn't be able to get a taxi. that is not true. they would be able to get a taxi, but it would have to be a taxi come up from on third street and turn left onto market. and i think that what would happen over time is taxi drivers would probably develop a new route. and maybe cruise through the financial district and choose to go to union square, to see what is happening over there when they get requir

director eaken. >> thank you so much, madam chair, and thank you legislative team for the update. a couple questions about our advocacy goals. so, i think we have all seen the 32 billion number, the roll-up of what many transit agencies and the country are asking for, have to also imagine at some point the number becomes out of date and actually a different target number so i wanted to check in and understand sort of, and also i think it's around 15 billion maybe the hoped for amount coming by the end of this week. i wanted to just check in on that roll-up and then maybe along those lines, it seems the slow streets kind of shared spaces movement has been a bright spot in the pandemic, and just wondering if we are part of these different national coalitions, have we similarly done a look at what it would take to build out safe biking and walking infrastructure networks around cities so that when we are in those conversations in d.c. and pushing for specific numbers we get, like the corollary to the 32 billion for transit, do we have that number on hand thinking about building out s
