eamon javers just left that fractious press conference eamon, what did you make of everything that justrter: kelly, i don't think we can overstate the political significance of what we just witnessed here at trump tower. let me reset the scene for where we were this afternoon going into today's press conference. this was a moment when the president had been criticized for being tepid in his response to what nationalists and neo-nazis rioting in charlottesville virginia mainstream business leaders, some of them, were beginning to step away and distance themselves from the president. the ceo of walmart felt compelled to issue a statement criticizing the president. united states, something i don't think we've ever seen before, criticizing him specifically by name for the way he handled this situation. that's where he was going in, and then we had this press conference where the president exhibited emotion, anger, frustration, took question after question on this issue and what he did today was double or triple down on his national statement of saturday backing more of the more conciliatory

eamon javers joins us now with more >> reporter: white house official told me yesterday that the whiteouse does not intend to put out its own tax plan as many people had expected they'll let congress take the lead on releasing the details of the plan here's what the white house official told me yesterday the congressional committees will take the lead on this that would be most likely the house weighs and means committee that would put out the first detail there. they said passing the bill is more important than what the details are of the bill. also they said they're now intentionally using the phrase tax relief rather than tax reform to garner support for this bill. you heard sarah huckabee sanders yesterday at the white house press briefing asked about tax reform she gave an answer about tax relief some interesting messaging choices there and tactical choices. the white house was criticized during the obama care repeal and replace effort for not putting out their own bill and letting congress take the lead on that that effort was not successful earlier this year. we'll see if this c
