let's get to eamon javers with more on the s.e.c. hack. they have a problem on its land in terms of the use of twitter for market manipulate. this time, the target is its own account. >> yeah, they sure do, melissa. and this is not new. we've seen this with twitter accounts going back to 2020, there was an incident involving a number of high profile people's accounts being hacked. that also was related to a crypto-currency issue, so, this happens around this crypto theme from time to time. in this case, though, i think the key word to look at in the s.e.c.'s statement to us is the word compromised. you know, kate was just discussing whether or not this was a fat finger error on the part of somebody in the s.e.c. coms department who tweeted out something by accident that had been drafted before, that's certainly a possibility, but the s.e.c. uses the word compromised in their statement, which does indicate that they believe that somebody in an unauthorized way took over that x or twitter account, however we're calling it these days. i think

eamon? >> reporter: melissa, this is going to be a big one.ard you are going to see all the ceos of the top companies up here. the hearing at the senate judiciary committee is focused on child exploitation on the social media platforms and i think you can separate out a couple of buckets, right one is the political pressure the social media companies are on that's going to be on full display next week on wednesday all the top executives are going to be there. they're going to be before the senators and cameras and the senators will try to score a lot of political points against them the pressure exists. you heard julia talking about the legislative pressure out in the country in the states passing laws to go after social media and then, of course, there's the legal pressure which you see in the case of a number of cases, class action lawsuits being brought against these social media companies alleging child sexual exploitation, mental health issues, teen addiction to social media issues, all of those things are being adjudicated in the courts

eamon javers was all over this last night and will watch it today as well. >> good morning, guys.e got a little new information about the hack of the s.e.c.'s twitter, now x account. last night from a posting by x's security team. now, remember, that, as you say, carl, in the 4:00 p.m. hour yesterday t s.e.c.'s official account published a statement suggesting that a bitcoin etf had been approved. that triggered bitcoin prices, but within moments, the s.e.c. said it was not true and their account had been compromised. overnight, x posted a statement saying, "the compromisefuls not due to any breach at x's systems but rather due to an unidentified individual obtaining control over a phone number associated with the @secgov account through a third party." x also said that the s.e.c. account did not have two-factor authentication enabled at the time of the hack. that's a standard extra layer of protection and it's going to raise questions about why the s.e.c. did not take that obvious security step on such a high-profile account. i reached out to the s.e.c. this morning for their sid
