temperatures across east asia looking like this. very chilly in ulan bator, snow flurries. minus 2. 16 in beijing, clear skies for seoul and tokyo, in the lower 20s. rain moves into shanghai. wet in taipei and hong kong and also thundershowers in bangkok. moving along to the central america area because we also have another tropical storm here. this is richard. tropical storm richard isn't moving very much, pretty much stationary, and it is not whipping up the winds too badly, 65 kilometers per hour. but look what happens later over the weekend, it is looking to upgrade to a hurricane. so it might be a hurricane when it makes landfall in belize in the next several days here. we'll keep an eye on that. because it is moving so slowly, rain will be falling here a lot for the next several days. so that, of course, is another issue in terms of flooding and landslides here. now, across the u.s. into canada, we're going to see some storms across the lower central plains, so those could be a bit on the severe side. eastern half, not too bad. another round of wet weather -- in acros

in east asia we have been keeping an eye on this storm system.s tropical storm system remains a very strong typhoon and pack winds of well over 160 kilometers per hour. gusts are hitting 200 and more. very intense storm system that is now getting very close to the southern islands of japan. already bringing in these tropical storm force winds to some of these islands including okinawa. looks like it's going to remain on a north-northeasterly course over the next couple of days. getting very close or possibly making landfall in central sections of japan this weekend. a little early to say just when and where it's going to land but we will be keeping a close eye on its progress. now, for the next 24 hours we're really concerned about the rain and the stormy weather that's going to be impacting okinawa islands as well as amami region in southern japan. already heavy rainfall has been falling. looks like that will intensify over the course of today. and of course there's the strong winds, storm surges, high waves to also watch out for as well. now, a

now, in east asia of course we have been keeping an eye on our major storm system.e's tropical cyclone moving right past the southern islands of japan. it has been bringing pretty windy conditions to these islands here since yesterday. those are still ongoing today. we're hearing of some very stormy conditions and actually, let's get a look at the situation coming out of amami, oshima this morning. you can see very strong winds gusting through these islands. gusts of over 70 kilometers per hour were recorded in amami oshima this morgan. waves have been quite high as well. very rough sea conditions around coastal areas. wave heights are expected to reach seven to eight meters across these areas as the storm system passes by. now, the peak, it is going to be at its closest to these islands this morning before starting to pull away in the afternoon. however, after that it's going to continue in a northeasterly direction, possibly even getting closer to central japan and even the tokyo area. we're keeping a close eye on the system. for the next 24 thundershowers, meanwh

over towards east asia, meanwhile, we're keeping an eye on this cluster of clouds here, this is the newrm system, tropical storm megan that's formed. it is on a strengthening track so over the next couple of days it could likely obtain typhoon status, so picking up much stronger winds, organizing further. right now it is heading in a northwesterly direction, although not too much, really moving slowly, meandering about the open waters here, but gradually expected to move toward the northern end of the philippines or even toward taiwan. we will keep a close eye on its progress and development. elsewhere across east asia of course south china sea still looking at quite a few showers including hainan island will pick up rainfall. central sections of china look a little dryer as we head into friday. for japan still pretty unsettled with off and on showers. northern portions of the country could see more significant rainfall come friday. thursday's highs looking at 23 degrees in tokyo. 27 for taipei. and then 32 degrees and rather steamy in bangkok. now, over toward the americas just off the

now, the main story in east asia continues to be this tropical depression hovering over hainan islandas already produced ample amounts of rain, not just in the last 24 hours but over the last week. and it will continue to produce heavy amounts of rain in and around hainan islands, parts of southern coast of mainland china as well looking the upwards of 200 millimeters in some cases. still that rain sort of lingers in parts of vietnam as well, where the flooding situation is very, very serious indeed. so it is going to be very vulnerable to further flooding and landslides. now, over to the other side of indo-china, things not looking much better either. very wet picture indeed from myanmar across thailand and then all the way into eastern india. we have a tropical low in place really impacting the east coast of india right now but also pulling in a lot of moisture elsewhere around the bay of bengal. and that's set to continue this weekend, producing more heavy rainfall, especially in and around bangladesh. so flooding is going to be quite possible here as well. taking a look at your te

taking a look first at east asia, in the south pacific we do continue to monitor this storm system. this will be tropical storm maggie though it has now strengthened into a severe tropical storm system. still strengthening as it heads toward the northwest. we'll keep an eye on its progress as it is going to be getting close to the northern philippines later on this week. elsewhere it is a pretty wet picture again across parts of the south china sea. nice and clear for a lot of of east china however so that is a good bit of news. a bit of rain in the northeast but nothing too significant. japan today another day of changeable weather. cloudy skies, a couple showers popping up here and there. and towards the north, the hokkaido area will see significant amounts of rain. in the south of course we've been seeing quite a bit of rain. in the china peninsula once again looking at heavy rain accumulation to form along the vietnam coast line but also in parts of thailand, too, looking at rainfall in the next 24 hours. other wet areas going to be the bay of bengal. we have a tropical depressi

now, in east asia we are keeping an eye on the south pacific here. cluster of clouds at the bottom of the screen. this will be our tropical storm system really starting to show signs of organizing and it is strengthening right now. it's a severe tropical storm system packing winds of over 100 kilometers per hour now, and likely going to continue on that strengthening trend over the next few days, attaining typhoon status as we head into the weekend. much stronger winds and plenty of rainfall could start affecting those of you across northern philippines later on this week. we will keep a close eye on its progress as well as developments. now, heavy rainfall has been impacting areas across the south china sea as well. looks like the coastline of vietnam will continue to see pretty heavy rainfall accumulation over the next 24 hours. a little bit showing up across parts of northern thailand as well, and then in the bay of bengal, too, another heavy rain area showing up just off the east coast of india. we've got a tropical depression in place here, too.

now across east asia today we are seeing clouds moving in toward japan today, so looking a lot cloudierack down from all the sunshine we saw yesterday. we are going to see some pretty unchangeable weather patterns as well so patches of showers will likely show up across the country over the kours of today especially into the evening hours. tail end of this frontal boundary will produce a few showers through parts of the korean peninsula but otherwise staying dry for the northern tier of china, dry conditions and indeed quite a bit of clear skies as well. but definitely wetter for central and southern sections of the country, more wet weather persisting again today, including the southeast here in hainan island, too, which has been heavily hit, looks like a couple showers will continue over the course of today. look at highs for you on tuesday, 31 in manila with thundershowers, also stormy in bangkok with a high of 35. 30 degrees in taipei, and getting up 25 in tokyo, too, so it is going to be rather on the warm side today. now over towards the americas and taking attention toward the so

getting a look at east asia first, another cloudy day, a lot of gray skies across the country. there will likely be patchy showers also popping up here and there throughout the day. over toward the peninsula a little rain showing up along the coast line but that will be about it. you'll stay clear all the way back through a lot of northern china today. central sections of china will continue to see rainfall rather and it will be pretty wet once again right along the yangtsee river valley continue to see a lot more moisture develop over the course of today. along areas along the south china sea still looking at a lot more wet weather headed your way. nothing too severe but definitely still pretty persistent wet weather for you. not good news as the ground is already quite saturated here. for the philippines, as well, covered under plenty of moisture and there will likely be more over the next few days. we are looking at a low pressure system. right now out towards the seas over here but it could start organizing and getting closer to the islands and producing heavy rains and pos

now, in east asia we have been maintaining an eye on this tropical cyclone here, and it's still guwiths, getting even better organized as it heads toward the north. right now, not moving too much slowly heading in a northerly direction, but it does remain a strong typhoon with packing winds over 140 kilometers per hour, gusts getting up to almost 200. so already packing very strong winds. pretty far out at sea right now but it is going to gradually get closer to the southern islands of japan first, then forecast path is taking it towards mainland japan, possibly making landfall here or at least likely going to affect the area with stronger winds as well as rain later on this week, so definitely a path that we will keep a close eye on throughout the next few days. now, for the next 24 hours, we are already seeing the outer rain bands affecting the southern islands of japan, including okinawa. more rain could come in as that system approaches, so we'll just stay on the watch for flooding as well as mudslide risks here. across china, pretty dry conditions. little bit of rain to the southw
