for east asia or southeast asia, we're watching several tropical storm systems. and one is nesat making landfall in the next couple hours likely. although it's already bringing the very strong winds to much of this northern half of the philippines today. it's just going to stay stormy as this works its way across the island here before heading back out into the south china sea. right now wind speeds about 140 kilometers per hour. much stronger gusts. now, once it makes landfall, those winds should weaken slightly. still it's expected to maintain intensity throughout today. you do want to brace for potentially damaging winds. out in the south china sea, we have a separate one. hitang moving at about 20 kilometers per hour. and once it hits it is going to weaken as well. but it will maintain the moisture through vietnam and ending up towards thailand over the next few days. so really this area is experiencing quite a bit of wet weather today. now, the philippines northern end will experience the heaviest falls but also across the indochina peninsula, be on the watc

in the region of east asia, japan remains among the pacific rim's economic heavyweights. despite its recent decade of economic stagnation, it is the second largest economy in the world. the intense concentration of population along the coastal lowlands is a defining feature of japan's modern landscape. tokyo is not only the largest, but also the most densely concentrated megalopolis on earth. in order to navigate this mega-city, workers in tokyo rely on the intricate and efficient web of public transit train routes. it's half past 4:00 in the morning at tokyo's otemachi subway station. this is an unlikely place to be riding a bicycle, but for station employees, it's a matter of course. otemachi is the largest subway station in tokyo. five different subway lines go through this station and there are 38 separate exits. the first chore each morning is to open all of the outside shutters. since it would take too long to walk to each one, employees use bicycles to get around in time. tokyo train stations, otemachi and ginza, are at the core of tokyo. there is a dramatic differ

looking at the weather in east asia first of all. looking at some rain lingering in northern japan. we've got a couple of lows from the tropical storm systems. they're still while weakening, bringing in plenty of showers today to the hokkaido northern japan area as well as the southeast corner of russia.. although it won't completely dry out until we head into thursday. nonetheless, those showers will gradually ease. so that at least is good news. meanwhile over toward china it's starting to look a lot wetter for the central tier. more showers heading eastward. inland areas will get a slight chance of moderate falls over the course of today. you do want to watch out for that. otherwise it's going to be widespread. but shouldn't be too heavy. now towards the southeast, the philippines will be looking at showers as well as the indochina peninsula. here's a look at highs for you. 31 is your high in manila. 33 expected in taipei today. 29 for shanghai. and getting up to 27 in seoul. tokyo expecting up to 31. on the warm side but not quite so humid and sticky today. over towards the amer

for east asia, we have a new tropical storm system that has joined us. this will be starting to head in a northwesterly direction. it looks like it will be aiming for the okinawa islands later on this week, as we head in towards the weekend. it's not a major system yet. winds about 65 kilometers an hour with gusts slightly higher than that, and it's likely not going to be intensifying too much more over the next few days so that at least is good news. however, definitely rough sea conditions as well as some winds and rain will be expected in the islands later on. so you do want to watch out for that. and already we're looking at moisture getting pushed in towards southern japan, with the storm system, and that's what's going to be bringing in rain again to areas that were already hard-hit by the other tropical storm system talas last weekend. it's the same areas here including the key peninsula that will be looking at as much as 100 millimeters of rainfall from tonight and into friday morning. so especially hard-hit areas, you do want to be well aware th
