that heavy band of snow by this afternoon and this evening moves east of baltimore, but sits on hartford and cecil county. your heavy snow conditions will last a little bit longer so i'm sticking with that forecast of you having more snow even though you're not winning the snow race right now. hartford and cecil county up towards southern p.a. will be pushing the higher end of our forecast. hopefully by 10:00 or midnight most of the stuff gets off of the coast and gets out of here and more sunshine should give us a chance to clean things up still an average of 12 to 20- inch for central and southern maryland. slightly more to the north. they've already cracked the one foot mark in new freedom and you could be -- i'm saying you could be doubling that. we're looking around baltimore city southbound, pushing close to a foot. a little lighter amount towards the south but heavy snow will come down during the course of the day and into the afternoon. you go from rain over to snow even towards the beaches. our forecast for today. we drop into the mid-20s. looks like almost a repeat of saturday.

. >> reporter: this is the sixth major winter storm to affect the east coast this year. philadelphia, baltimoreon, d.c., wilmington, delaware, atlantic city, new jersey, have all surpassed their all-time winter snow records. and this very powerful nor'easter is unusual in its path, direction, duration and even the types of weather extremes. it's path and direction? this storm moving inland, then does a loop, then pucks off the shoreline. the duration of this storm, probably two to three days before it clears new england. and types of weather? it has it all. from rough winds and beach erosion to heavy floofding rains to a mixture of rain and snow, to heavy snow and even blizzard conditions. the unrelenting series of february storms have taxed steps and states already reefling from budget cuts. philadelphia had slammed a season record for snowfall, even before this storm arrived. the step and the rest of pennsylvania are struggling with the cost of repeated storms. >> it is done a devastating job to our city budget. there was no way in the world that we could anticipate this has been the snowiest

east/northeast. most of this will miss baltimore late, late tonight.me it gets to baltimore and northern maryland area, it will mix. and overnight, we expect it to change. take a look at temperatures now. quite mild. 42, 45. 43 down there. so here on the eastern shore, temps in the low 40s. we're just talking rain. but the dew point is 28. that means once the precip starts, the temperatures will begin to drop. winds very light out of the west. we've had a good deal of sunshine across northern maryland today. most of the clouds, you can see with the precipes have been holding down to the south. a very complex weather pattern over the next couple of days. very complex. it's like a puzzle. all. pieces haven't come together yet. rain along the south. that's moving off to the east. area of low pressure over the great lakes. not that strong. but these are going to combine off the atlantic coast into one area of low pressure that is really going to wrap new england. we're going to get a lot of strong winds out of it. not heavy, heavy snow. we'll see some snow

baltimore region. we're going to zoom into this area, just to the north and west of town. over to just east of fredrick, that's some moderate snow. further west it's a lot lighter. we're seeing now light to moderate snow. as we head to the west, west of hagerstown. there's a little bit more in ohio, we still have a risk of light flurries till about 5:00 or 6:00 p.m. the moderate stuff will be done about 2:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. let's take a look at the snowfall amounts once again. we've seen two to three inches in the building. we may pick up another inch or so. a few spots already have three or four may get up to five or six. it's a very wet snow as you probably see. you can make a snow man with, snowball fight, yes. three to four generally. temps well above freezing, speaking temps, let's take a look at some of them. 31 now, it's come up with degree. humidity at 96%. the dewpoint is at 30. which means it can't drop much more than that. the barometer is falling just a little bit right now. 31 here, 32 in eastton. above freezing down to our south. a lot of it is melting down 33. this is nothi

baltimore to d.c. surrounding areas 3-5 with less if you go toward the east.h an exception in salse as yo--salisbury as you saw there. 30 in hagerstown, 30 in oakland. the question is what is next as the system pulls out and the following cold front moves toward the east. we see drier air moving in. what is behind this low pressure center, this nasty low down in the gulf coast. i say nasty because this one looks coming up the coast and heading in our general direction. this low can take two different paths, one it will take it out to sea in which case we won't see a whole lot of it. the second scenario which is more likely is that it comes out, and we get one of those snow storms that affects the northeast from boston, through philadelphia and affecting us as well as d.c. by the way, totals on that right, hard to say, but it's looking like it could be over a foot or more. 41 degrees in the eastern shore, most low cloudy skies 5-15-mile-an-hour winds. for the central part of the state look for temperatures to get to a high of 45 degrees at 1:00 this afternoon.
