will start off in the 50s, from 50 degrees in santa rosa to the upper 50s around oakland to the east bay, upper 50s around mountain view and san jose. temperatures will warm up quickly inland, slower around the bay because it takes longer to get rid of the fog, temperatures by lunch time in the low to mid 70s. the warmest spot in the upper half of the 70s, thinking back a couple days ago when those inland east bay temperatures were in the 90s by noon. the warmest temperatures will top out near 90 degrees for fairfield, antioch, brentwood, temperatures in the upper 70s and low 80s, upper 70s and low 80s in the santa clara valley, into the low 80s farther inland, with mid to upper 80s for the east bay, temperatures around the bay topping out in the 60s for the most part, around 70 degrees for an official high temperature in oakland, by early afternoon already cooling off by this time tomorrow. a warm-up for everybody as we finish the weekend and headed early next week, temperatures from saturday to sunday jumped by four or 5 degrees across the board, and then have her there monday and tues

nbc sky ranger over the east bay hills where a red flag warning goes into effect in two hours. the north bay also affected. the biggest concern is gusty winds and the threat of dry lightning. jeff ranieri is standing by. that shot shows us dry brown everywhere. where should people be most concerned? >> up in the hills, in the north and east bay. our system is moving closer. that's helping to pull up some of this moisture and those thunderstorm chances from the south. we'll look at the red flag fire warning. this goes into effect 5:00 p.m. tonight until 9:00 a.m. tomorrow for that slight risk of thunderstorms for the north and east bay. some of the south bay there as well. we did see a few isolated showers earlier this morning. this is all moving off to the north. right now there is no lightning with it. any kind of rainfall would actually be beneficial because of how dry we are. on the current stormranger scan, you can see some of this making its way into the north bay with light showers over bodega bay. this is moving off to the north. we'll track more of this and our thunderst

a red flag warning is in effect for east bay hills and valleys and north bay mountains. pge says that's forcing them to become public safety power shut offs in napa and solano. justin andrews is live in napa. people have been getting ready for this all morning. >> reporter: they have. things are still okay right here. people still have power but we know that's not the case for other parts of the bay including in solano county. take a look at the outage map we have been looking at. in the last 15 minutes we have noticed more shut offs in vacaville and fairfield areas. you should see those in pink on your screen. it's thanks to dry, gusty conditions that could bring heightened fire risks. pge says shut off prevented fire lines from igniting fires. more than 2,000 customers were notified of the possible shut downs over the weekend. we talked to richard kennedy and he is one of them that got the notification. he lives in napa. take a listen to how he says he is sort of preparing. >> it's difficult. usually we wouldn't mind it. but my wife is 82 and she's very sick. when it g

east bay as well. now, for those of us here in the bay area in particular, our greatest potential of any sort of dry lightning will be from 10:00pm tonight until 02:00am of tomorrow morning. that's when we could see some thunderstorm activity popping up here across the region. what we're going to see today. during daytime hours is actually some really nice and comfortable dry conditions. this is where we're at right now. and as you can see, there's some cloud cover that blanket of cloud cover associated with that same potential dry lightning later today. any sort of rainfall that comes along with this is likely to be really light, not enough to quench any sort of spark. that is to put up by a by a lightning strike and that is the big concern here for sure. as you can see, those are also going to be a problem. air quality is going to be good today. so these are the 2 pluses of your forecast today. it's going to be an easier one to breathe, then it's also just going to be more comfortable one. as you vent

much of the north and east bay still in an exceptional drop. extreme drought category. as the drought emergency deeps a lifornia, some south bay areas are falling short of water conservation goals. in june the largest water agency in santa clara county asked its residents to cut water use by 15%. so far they managed to reduce their usage by 6%. stafford and palo alto are at or near the 15% goal. santa clara and mountain view only cut 2%. los altos hills using 5% more. if conservation does not improve, water companies could start imposing financial penalties. >> this is not something we want to do. but we may not have a choice based on the very serious drought we are in. >> it is hard not to be disappointed. i know my water bill is more expensive today and it is not because usage has gone up.>> the marine municipal water district is considering whether to charge new penalties for people using excessive amounts of water, when they are supposed to be conserving. the board will vote on the penalty program in a couple weeks. >>> the bay area's hot h

rain on areas like the santa cruz mountains, just west of highway 2.80, pretty calm now for the east bay. the north bay as well as the south bay after this morning sprinkles for you now what we have as we work our way into the afternoon will be a couple of more of these spots of sprinkles popping up into the evening tonight better chances of thunderstorms actually working their way back into the picture. you see that line of thunderstorms just after midnight that will make its way through the east bay. this upshur fire danger because even if we do see some rainfall accompanying these storms. winds gusting as high as 30 miles per hour. paired with all the dry grass. the dry vegetation and then cloud to ground lightning. does up fire danger last august. we had a a thunderstorm event that resulted in so many fires across the bay. and although this one isn't expected to be like that. it is alarming enough now fire weather watches take effect at last until 11:00am tomorrow morning for almost all the north bay and then inland portions of the east bay as far as air quality goes, here's a big po

bay area. that is a live view from the salesforce camera. looking towards the east you can see the tip of mt. diablo they are resting above a pretty healthy little layer of marine layer sitting out over the heart of the bay. that will grow a little bit. i will show you how that moves into a wider area over the next two hours and then by late morning it will be gone. tanana concorde, 58 oakland. in a cool 50 in santa rosa. more numbers. but when we take the current to purchase and put the marine layer on top of that, we will see just how widespread it is to make since we were just looking at it from the salesforce tower. over the next couple hours we will see this work through the rest of the bay. working its way over to napa, same story to the heart of sonoma county right of 101. once we get past that, the college will disappear. give it until about noon today. take a look at that one little strand right here. so this will still be one of those days where you get real pretty showing of the fog coming in over the golden gate bridge and just hovering over alcatraz. ev

the east bay hills and the interior east bay valleys and, frankly, you know, a lot of the east bay inn. also the napa hills did not really get any of the rain over the weekend. it was a very small amount, even in the north bay, but they didn't get anything in a lot of spots. here is where the wind is right now. mount st helene about 29 mph. they were upwards of. you know, like 50 mph in the overnight hours, mount diablo right now you can see blowing at about 25 as well. so there certainly is. wind still up there and can see all of these arrows kind of showing you that it's being driven off shore. we do have gusty wind in fairfield right now at about. 33 mph, but everywhere else at the surface is relatively calm, and that will most likely stay that way as we get throughout today, so again, it is the wind up at elevation noticed the liver more stern to see that offshore flow there about 13 mph. this is the bigger problem. we start to get dry air out there. the relative humidity levels start dropping with that means is any fire. that starts could spread very quickly when you get into the
