in the east bay. oakland, police are investigating a case of a vehicle theft that ended with the thief debt. here's video from the citizen app of the scene. you can see the flames and the smoke shooting out of that white van. that van was stolen. it was reported stolen wednesday morning. and police responded in i avenue near el monte avenue and that's where they found the person in the stolen vehicle tried to speak to that person. but they drove off until the van ended up catching fire. and apparently the thief was unable to get out, died at the scene. in fact, 2 officers who attempted to rescue them suffered burns. >> we'll take a break at 9.37. becoming up a co-founder of a yoga studio in berkeley loses her job. tell you why. >> and we are still seeing showers moving across the bay area this morning. in fact, a line of heavy rainfall just moved from oakland on up a little bit further northward on its way up towards the cartoon as bridge. you're seeing some heavier rainfall around martinez right now.

we haven't seen those high temperatures since almost 100 years ago and the east bay. aven't seen records like yesterday since the late 8 make 1900 so a long time ago. and fire season is upon us. we saw several fires pop up yesterday in the bay area. let's start with one that started right here in contra costa county. and that was in bay point right off of highway 4. you can see pictures on your screen. that was a grass fire that right near highway 4. smoke is blowing across highway lanes. at one point, crews actually were able to stop it at 2 and a half acres. so that's good news. they were able to stop it. they got there in time. but as we know, his grass fires, they can really take off. someone has been arrested suspected of starting the fires there. there was also a fire that sparked in fairfield. you can see drone footage from the grass fire there. it happened by the railroad crossing at back avenue. see that thick black smoke that was just spewing from that fire. there get that under control as well. so not much more information about how that fire started, but we

shortly before 11 o'clock tonight we could see some light to moderate rain throughout most of the east bay and those of you in the south bay over mount hamilton, you could actually get snow light. snow showers throughout the highest peaks north bay mountains and east bay hills also included in that with some spotty scattered hit or miss showers throughout the evening and then we're going to dry out mainly by saturday morning, slight chance of light showers, though, for your saturday afternoon, mainly along the east bay with those passing lingering showers. but overall drier pattern, colder air. so we are going to notice chilly overnight lows saturday night into sunday. you've been warned, make sure to bundle up. we are going to see rain totals though. just really traces amount at best about a 10th of an inch of rain or less. for those of you in san jose. so you're really going to benefit from tonight's second round of wet weather. but take a look at the howling winds. in fact, we're already seeing wind gusts along the coast, 40 miles per hour. and it has been extended to not just include t

you can see visibility being affected near the coastline in right along the east bay shoreline. as the fog streams through the golden gate right around the san bruno gap as well. we are going to be seeing some of that impact right along the bay shore through the morning. that is going to have an impact on temperatures near the coastline today keeping coastal areas a little bit cooler inland areas still alive and well into those 80's. now, our current temperatures are mostly in the 40's to 50's double in livermore concord at 53 degrees. each pittsburgh. you're at 59 right now. petaluma santa rosa nevado among those spots at 48 degrees. currently definitely a cool down from the same point yesterday. partly because of that fog. it also calmer winds that offshore wind that carried that warm air all the way up to the coastline. he's really relaxed a whole lot. where does this put us into the afternoon? well, after a cooler morning, we're still going to be in the 80's inland 70's along the bay 60's near the coast. i'll be breaking it all down for you in your full forecast. still to com

from the standpoint of the east bay and some of those inland valleys. again around the immediate bay, it's going to be little bit tougher, though. and temperatures will be noticeably warmer inland in the 60's. it looks like the longer-range forecasts to get past this immediate traffic. right now there's a front dropping to our south on wednesday. the kind of floods us with cloud cover again, the by thursday. we get a little break going on in the action here on friday. over the weekend. another weak system drop south that doesn't have anything with that except cloud cover. unfortunately, it's a rain opportunity missed. we're already in the next thursday. not much happens. it looks like a highs trying to build and we might be looking for a little bit of a warming spike by the time we get to next week or at least one of the what we've seen. to keep it like that, a mixed bag of sun and clouds. san francisco. 61 63 for oakland, san jose. more in the mostly sunny mode and cool conditions at 65 again. notice will be warmer. there. a temperature check for highs.
