the east bay hills, if you look at the wind coming in the way it's or oriented, it's hitting the east bay hills here and will likely downslope tomorrow. we'll bring up the forecast monitor to allow me to get more specific and slow down the progression of this. keep your eye on the time and watch what happens as we get into the early morning hours of tomorrow. the winds will start picking up here and i'm going to let this go until around like say 6:00 a.m. and that's when you'll see the deeper shades of orange really fill in for much of the immediate east bay. now we've got gusts in the low to mid-40s. this is just on the verge of needing a wind advisory here and the national weather service would take two things into account for this, how strong are the gusts and how long will it last. it's a three or four-hour window, not a long stretch of the day, but it will be tomorrow morning. there's your time at 7:00 a.m. it's going to be going through 10:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m., certainly like 9:00 a.m. might even be the peak time frame and then the winds relax a bit as we get into early afterno

you know, the jail and also down in red county east bay, all the communities running the shoreline of the bay shoreline into the eastern santa clara mountains. and even the santa cruz mountains. temperature changes warmer today than yesterday. at this hour, as many as 8 degrees warmer in napa, 13 degrees warmer in livermore and 11 degrees warmer in half moon bay. it's going to be a beautiful day. gorgeous, start 40's and 50's for the most part. and the air quality only so-so. and part of the problem really is just high pressure has been park building in again right across the central coast. and that acts like a little bit traps. particulate matter close to the surface and also, of course, there's smoke that could be blowing a little bit from southern california. high wind advisory, santa ana winds pushing out of the northeast. that high wind advisories for much of the bay area. not not everywhere, not san francisco, winds at this hour, 33 mile per hour gusts at a napa. but fairfield, 38. 22 livermore. so you can see how these gust continuing. they fluctuate little bit off and on throu

we've already seen those 50 mile per hour gusts up in the east bay hills. morning, winds will pick back up tonight into tomorrow morning. we do have a high wind watch is in the north bay through 10:00am tomorrow. wouldn't be surprised to see a few more of these advisories popping up for the bay. now temperature wise, we're pretty chilly for a few spots. we actually have a few frost advisories for the inland east bay. so if you're stepping outside, noticing that cold feel it is definitely not just you later on today, a very mild afternoon. kind of like we saw over the weekend with highs back to the 60's. >> right. all right. on the still very gusty out there. but the good news look at our bridges, but i'm just going to drop. so from 25 14, our richmond center fell bridge. we got up to 14. now we're down 9 and the golden gate bridge still around 32. so that's probably the slowest of the bridge is out there. checking on those highways are still seeing some red, especially across the east bay and windy conditions. so high profile vehicles just take it easy durin

i just want to go local to the east bay. now watch what happens when we would play this through and bring it ahead to tomorrow morning. you will see another area that will light up. sure, the north bay has the gusty winds. but take a look over here. east bay health. the offshore winds will be coming over the ridge top here, which is not terribly high. but if you are just downwind, and you get that assist, you can get some down sloping. it's not only oakland, but berkeley hills, castro valley. between the hours of say sunrise and let's say 10:00 a.m. you can see the windsic be up in intensity over here. the rest of the day and it will stay windy and turn off completely. it is not terrible for most of us, but it will be the morning hours for the east bay communities on the downwind side of the east bay hills that might feel a little bit more. so be aware of that. then things will quiet down. remember, that will expire on tuesday at 10:00 a.m. there is one other element to discuss in the weather. let's get back to the virtual ma

today in the bay's bob redell joins us live in the east bay this morning. bob, governor newsom is leading this charge to really change this policy. or else they will withhold the state will withhold or limit the number ofhp officers, laura, that they are sending and have been sending into the city of oakland to help that city combat crime. right now, opd and the city administrator are revising the pursuit policy, which will be presented to the oakland police commission. that's the commission that oversees opd sometime next week. tonight, the commission will hold a town hall to hear from oaklanders about their concerns about the current policy, and then perhaps talk about the proposed changes as it stands. oakland police officers are not allowed. they are prohibited from going after suspects unless that suspect has a firearm or is suspected of a violent crime. the city implemented this restrictive policy back in 2014, after an audit found that vehicle pursuits were causing too many crashes and injuries to officers, bystanders and suspects. and that did not j

you're not in san francisco, but you're across some of our inland valleys through the north bay, east bay, and south bay, temperatures will be very similar here. we're down here to 45 as we ring in the new year across our inland valleys. okay, let's go ahead and move it into tomorrow's forecast. we have high pressure. this is going to act like a buffer to keep the storm track just off to the north. there's going to be some rainfall just outside of napa and sonoma counties. right now we're keeping it dry. and eventually we'll get that storm track to move closer to us to give us some chances of rain. and i'll get you those details here shortly. but as we started off here on 2025, the first day, we're going to begin here with a mix of some sun, some clouds, maybe the chance here of fog around the bay and also the east bay that you'll want to watch out for in that morning commute. and then as we hit the afternoon, it's a mixed bag here. we'll see the best chance of clouds continuing over the north bay, and we'll see some sun and clouds mixing in through the peninsula, south bay and east bay.

turning now to the east bay. san pablo police arrested a woman after a car chase led to a string of crashes. police say claire williamson fled from officers after an attempted traffic stop on saturday night. it happenedp along san pablo avenue just after 6:00. she hit two police cars and multiple parked vehicles. she then hit an oncoming car near 30th street and barrett avenue, police say, severely injuring the driver and passenger. both victims were taken to a hospital and are expected to survive. the suspect still attempted to run away after the crash but was eventually caught. one neighbor describes what he saw. >> it was almost like an earthquake, a bomb almost going off, and by the time the whole pursuit was done and finished, there was at least 20 uh- law enforcement vehicles. they had the dogs out. >> williamson is currently in custody and has three outstanding warrants for her arrest. she is expected to be booked on several charges. developing news now berkeley police are investigating a burglary. it happ

mary's college and the east bay is no stranger to the devastating wildfires, including the oakland hills firestorm that killed 25 people back in 1991. our amanda hari spoke to the berkeley fire chief about why the devastation in southern california is dredging up unwelcome memories of that disaster. >> reporter: the berkeley fire chief says the images we're seeing out of southern california are a grim reminder what can happen right here. he says the topography and vegetation in the oakland hills and berkeley hills is very similar to that in l.a. he wants to remind both firefighters and residents to be prepared. as multiple fires continue to burn in the los angeles area, local fire municipalities are trying to learn from the tragedy. >> we have to learn. we're always learning. >> reporter: berkeley fire chief david sprague penned a letter to the community in the berkeley scanner to recognize what is going on, try to inspire hope, and acknowledge that there are more mitigation efforts that can help the community protect itself from a mega fire. >> we know it can happen here. climate change

so in terms of the wind advisory, it's the santa cruz mountains, diablo range, east bay hills, and to the interior hills and mountains of the north bay. and here's a look at the peak wind speeds, which will be increasing tonight into tomorrow morning. if you're in those hilltop communities, if you're out around, let's say, camino tassajara, danville area, the noise of the wind might wake you up tonight. peak wind speeds picking up for the first hf of saturday. and then the wind eeds do start to dial back as we head into your sunday forecast. but notice the wind direction here. it is gusty and offshore. w we're thankful we've had some pretty good rain totals so far this season, so that is kind of suppressed. the fire danger locally. wind speeds will start to come down and we'll lose that wind advisory as we head into sunday. saturday morning temperatures will be in the 40s and highs again for the afternoon. pretty good temperature recovery. san jose southward seeing highs in the mid 60s. about 5 to 7 degrees above average for this time of year. and 60s bayside around san francisco and

we have a wind advisory going up for the north and east bay hills. gusts to 50 miles an hour. also parts of the peninsula hills. possibility of downed tree limbs and outages are possible. so watch out. the 10:00 tonight you will notice the northerly wind developing. it's a gusty offshore wind going into 5 a.m. about 37 miles an hour. fairfield half moon bay over 40 miles an hour. and that windy pattern continues into the afternoon going into the nighttime hours. look at that. calistoga. over 40 mile an hour winds late night. it is still windy. the good thing is, we've had our wedding rains. our fire season is our fire danger is lessened because of this. so that is obviously a good thing for us here in the bay area. beach hazard statement until 9 p.m. tomorrow. watch out. those breakers are building up to 20ft, which means rip current risk and sneaker waves down south. they have not seen their first big rain event, so their fire danger is running high beginning tomorrow morning until thursday afternoon, they are looking at gusts 50 to 80 miles an hour. isolated even higher 80 t
