east bay valleys and for parts of the south bay as i speak. let's take a look at this imminent fire danger warning it is for elevations above 2000 feet north bay mountains, east bay, hills and diablo range but areas excluded include the immediate coastline of the bay area and the east bay shoreline and that is thanks to the marine layer giving us some much needed moisture. we can track that fog bank out there right now with our south of market camera in downtown san francisco in radar for tracking that monsoonal moisture into monterey county and central california as it inches closer towards the bay area. now the good news is so far no lightning has been detected tonight. but like i said with that daytime heating, we're going to notice the biggest threat of any dry lightning with the pop-up thunderscorms, too. for monday morning through early monday afternoon. and here's a clear example of that by monday mid morning, we could see some light showers from those thunderstorms that may form over the east bay hills and diablo range. so just keep that in mind. we're not expecting a lot of rain with this monsoonal moisture even though it has the word moisture attached to is th

a little drizzle up in the east bay hills this morning. quality is good just about every day and just about every microclimate through wednesday. if you're heading out in east bay, we'll stick here. richmond, 52 to about 57 in it union city. how about other neighborhoods you'll find a whole lot of 50s here. from 51 in santa rosa to a few 60s los gatos at 60. antioch and brentwood 62 degrees. that's pretty nice compared to those 70s and 80s we had for throes over the weekend. throughout the day, notice the clouds back to the coast where they're going to be stubborn there. still in the 50s. mid to upper 50s at noon for half moon bay and san francisco. 60s around the bay. 70s inland. 80s around antioch. even a 90 up around clear lake. one of the reasons you're in that excessive heat warning through this evening at 8:00. 100 and 97 in cloverdale. 60s and 70s around the bay. as we head to 7:00, clouds start marching back. getting ready to do this. and we're going to repeat this almost every day of the forecast. i'll show you that coming up next

and as john talked about, there's high fire danger in the east bay hills and the north bay mountains. yeah. firefighters are worried about dry thunderstorms that could spark a new wildfire that's a big concern. kron four's will tran for us in a rented this morning. >> with more on the story. will. >> everybody is on pins and needles and you better believe firefighters are probably leading the charge as far as the nervousness. you can see the sign right behind me. this is from the fire department and they moved the needle to extreme. that's how bad the conditions are at this time to good news is the red flag warning has been removed. but the intensity as far as the possibility of a fire breaking out. it is still very much there. i mean, let's talk about just the conditions being so right, it is humid and a lot of the fires that happened throughout california during wildfire season last year. they started with lightning strikes, especially down in santa cruz. and so they're very fearful of that. they have been stepping up efforts over the past couple of weeks. as far as abatement trying

the east bay hills. berkeley hills, diablo range and santa cruz mountains starting tomorrow evening at 5 o'clock. meanwhile, strong winds continuing to hamper efforts to contain the beckwourth complex fire that is still burning out of control in northern california near the nevada border. so far this blaze has already scorched more than 105,000 acres and is set to be 70% contained. so far more than 30 homes have been destroyed in the town of doyle. as a result, officials say the fire was sparked from lightning. and the bootleg fire which is burning near the california oregon border has been threatening parts of the states. power supply that fire has already burned through more than 281,000 acres so far. it's now the second biggest fire burning in america. it's been 2 weeks since that first sparked and continues to threaten more than 5,000 people with the ongoing dry hot weather there. some fire authorities believe it may not be fully contained until november. >> the cause of california's largest single w

is the higher elevations of the bay area, so the northbay mountains, east bay hills, the diablo range in the santa crews mountain 's, these are all mainly spots above 2000 feet where we are going to have the greatest threat. it's be concerned not only that the dry vegetation is there, especially above 2000 feet where the marine layer has not provided any moisture over the past few weeks, but we are adding the possibility of some dry thunderstorms to the mix, beginning sunday evening, continuing into the nighttime hours and into early monday morning. not just dry lightning that could spark some fires but also producing gusty winds that will be erratic in direction, helping to spread the virus. much more detail, what we know and what we are still figuring out in just a few minutes. >>> we've got some breaking news this evening on daca, the government program protecting thousands of young adults brought into this country as very young children, illegally. a federal judge in texas has ruled the program is invalid. the judge sided with texas and eight other republican-led states. they argu

our north bay hills are east bay hill, santa cruz mountains and also includes the inner east bay, where temperatures are expected to be above 100, at least through the weekend. better details on what we're seeing outside right now and what you can expect for your bay area weekend coming up in just a little bit. rosemary thank you. heat spelled like the one we're experiencing right now can really take a toll on our aging infrastructure. ktvu is tom baker has more now from the north bay, where temperatures climbed up toward triple digits. today urban areas due to high concentrations of buildings, parking lots and roadways become so called heat islands places that retain heat even overnight, potentially making the next day's heat up quicker and hotter. that results in increased energy use impaired water quality, higher air pollutants and greenhouse gases. consider reservoirs on a typical summer day. lake shasta, california's largest reservoir, loses 200 million gallons of water every day to evaporation enough to fill 22,004 sized gasoline trucks made even bigger by extreme heat. what about

a little mist and drizzle around the coast, san francisco, and the east bay hills. our most robust forecast model shows a little bit of wetness out there. we could use it without the lightning, but that is the issue. temperatures in the mid-60s to upper 80s. not quite as hot today. >> we are having a major issue right now on board, specifically on the san francisco line because of equipment problems. we have a colleague on the train, they are making an announcement about a power issue. you are going to have a major delay if you are traveling in the sfo daly city, and east bay direction, that is every direction the san francisco line goes, this will impact people that need to make their way into the city. give yourself extra time, at least 20 minutes. >>> a new mask rules take effect in san mateo county. you will need to wear a mask in county buildings, even if you are vaccinated. >> officials are concerned about the spread of the dr. variant. >> reporter: health officials say 85% of the population here is vaccinated, they putting this requirement in place today. if

east bay. the excessive heat warning is that shade of pink there. it also includes our north bay hills bay hills. the comparison there the heat advisory for temperatures expected to hover in the low one hundreds and excessive heat warning means that some of those temperatures could reach 105, maybe even a little bit above and again. it's our inner east bay that will suffer once again going into the next few days. the onshore breezes there, though fairfield reporting 20 mph oakland reporting in northwest, reset, 17 and napa reporting 13. so thankfully, it hasn't cut completely off. if it did, we would be a lot warmer, even hot in and around our bay area as well as. areas along the coast were also still with a little bit of fog along the coast. you can see it's kind of pushed off there. it will return. it does enter into the bay early tomorrow morning. here's a look at your future cast. i'll stop it for you right about eight o'clock and you will notice a little bit of fog just inside. it doesn't last. but again, the take away here is along the coast and just inside the bay being being sa

now the red flag warning also covers parts of the east bay hills and diablo range, the east bay regional parks districts fire department is also staffed up and ready to go in the event of fire breaks out the fire station one in tilden park is a good example of what's happening at a party. and throughout the region. wild land fire engines, water tenders, an extra personnel are all at the ready. the park district will also get help from groups that monitor cameras on towers in the east bay and alert firefighters. will be staffing up three of our stations spread throughout the two counties and with not only extra personnel and apparatu to respond, but also for an extended period of time, with the possibility of overnight fires, officials say people in danger zone should be prepared for potential evacuations. officials also recommend using technology that will give you an evacuation alert overnight and have a go bag ready. the cal fire san mateo santa cruz unit has extra staff and. have been ready to go if needed. it posted on twitter, saying the extra equipment includes 16 engines for batta

parts of the bay area are very dry as we head into another heat wave expected in the coming days, especially the east and north bay hills and mount diablo, which you see right there, browned out and dry, and it's the same looking towards mount hamilton, east of san jose. firefighters we've talked to say the fuels this summer are drier than they've ever seen them at this time of year. a big part of that with the lack of rain we had for two consecutive winters can interviews. tom vacar joins us live now from wildcat canyon regional park. and tom, what have you learned about those fire safety plans that berkeley is going to be implementing. they're very big and they're very regional. now we're at wild wildcat canyon park, but wildcat canyon park goes all the way down to tilden in berkeley, which is the situs of this story, which is a regional story. now you have to remember that it's still very, very early in the fire season. so take note of all of this. long before berkeley was damaged by the 1991 oakland hills firestorm way back 98 years ago, it lost more than 500 homes to a wildfire that made 4000 homeless thursday morn

a look at downtown and two the east bay hills. really nice here in we have more fog rolling in tonight and some 50s at 9:00, 10:00, and 11:00. let's take you to the inland valleys. hazy skies and humidity in livermore. this is gray and not the best weather to be out in we will be getting to the 80s here. but if you don't have ac you need to think about a way to stay cool tonight because you're house will just retain that heat. we have seen this pattern repeatedly coming from an area of high pressure in stays with us tomorrow. pulling up the heat and the humidity from the south. let me show you this once we hit the weekend this will move on towards the east to maybe way for the cooler system. the system is not going to move on top of the bay area, but five or ten degrees cooler for the inland valleys and that will make it a lot nicer as we go to saturday and sunday's forecast. you can see fog near the coastline. we will see isolated storms for the central valley and the sierra. through the afternoon the best chance of thunderstorms

one testament to that is your berkeley hills cam where low cloud cover pushes right over the east bay straight up into those hills. so if you are traveling over hillsides or up and down the coastline. that's where you're seeing especially lower visibility and also some wet spots on roadways for some drizzle yesterday. it was and drizzle nor misty conditions but thunderstorms up in the sierra nevada. look at how active yesterday afternoon was we didn't just see rain up there, but also some cloud to ground lightning which does up your risk of fires. at least there was some valuable rainfall to help wet and those slopes. but there was definitely an active afternoon up in the sierra yesterday. well, here in the bay area. really the only activity we're getting is that cool sea breeze pushing in some moisture in the form of mist near the coast and right along the bay itself. we'll still have that sea breeze today. kind of a nuisance at times. i know it's been less than ideal as far as winds go so far this year. but it has actually been keeping temperatures fairly moderate. it will have thos
