. >> the suspected east coast rapist is now in virginia to face charges. stacy cohan has more. >> reporter: the east coast rapist was a notorious criminal wanted by police for over adecade. there were billboards. there were wanted posters and finally police zeroed in on this man, aaron thomas. it appears virginia will be the first jurisdiction to bring him to trial. a arrived yesterday from new halfen, connecticut. that is where he was arrested back in march after investigators connected to him to dna on a discarded cigarette butt. that dna was then connected to several of these sexual say us. con cop agreed to send him to virginia because they believe he is likely to get a longer sentence if he is convicted of a crime here. he faces numerous charges including two counts of rape, abduction and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. >> we are just happy to get the opportunity to be able to try him and hopefully make our having tip as aling more comfortable. if he is convicted, he won't be out on the street doing this to anyone else. >> reporter
