in the 1960's, a man named mel fisher who was working on the east coast of florida, looking for a shipwreck that had sunk in 1750, he heard about this rack that had gone down somewhere in the florida keys back in 1622. he decided he was going to look for it. his whole family was involved in this venture, his wife and children and he had a crew as well. they all moved down here to the florida keys. first they began the search in the upper keys because they thought the historic documents pointed to the day up there. but after a year or two of work, they found it was actually somewhere in the lower keys, so they moved their operations to key west and began a search that was almost unbelievable. it took 16 years of searching. they sacrificed so much. it was a huge expense. they had legal battles the entire way. mel and his wife lost their oldest son and daughter-in-law two divers who were killed during the search. it was a very, very hot far -- hard fought search. but in the cargo hold was found bandwidth that came 30 tons of silver bars, over 100,000 silver coins, and one of the most brilliant

first on 7 -- three more life sentences for the man known as the east coast rapist. aaron thomas pleaded guilty to raping three women in prince george's county ten years ago. the plea agreement called for a life sentence in each case. thomas is already serving life in prison for three attacks in virginia. thomas is accused of raping 17 women in maryland, virginia connecticut, road island. the victim of a 2005 attack in fairfax has to relive the devastating moments this afternoon. as trial began for her accused attacker. on the witness stand, the victim recalls screaming and the threats from her attacker. the man accused in the case, jesse matthew, is charged with attempted murder. he is the same man charged in the killing of university of virginia student hannah graham last year. a violent weekend in district ended last night when a 64-year-old woman was stabbed to death inside a northwest home. she was one of four people stabbed in the attack at 9:30 on t-street not far from the u-street metro station. suzanne kennedy explains what happened. suzanne: as the weekend

they came together as a group of people on university campuses on the west coast, but also on the east coast to some degree. they tried to assert an american -- their asian american identity. part of that emerging identity really pushed them to find out the legacy and history of their own ethnic and racial group. part of that discovery was about their community members, the older community member experiences of the bomb. they started out why talking to -- by talking to survivors in the community. that is very precious historical record. that's the only set of oral history collections we have that i am aware of about u.s. survivors' life experiences. there are few oral history interviews that we have about them. i am not going to say an oral history is the best way to think about the past. of course, there are various ways in which we can think about the past. oral history has a power of bringing out individual voices but also it will always be based on interaction between the interviewer and interviewee. in cases of older oral histories, it is not really only about survivors themselves, but
