well, my first book was on migrant workers on the east coast of the us, which i tripped over actually trying to get a professor when i was in grad school to, sign a petition, and we were trying to raise grad students pay. we were paid $4,000 a year. so i was going door to door and george tindall's very famous southern said when did the migrants dream start on the east coast and i. i have no idea. why are you asking me? and he's and i've been asking this question for 15 years and nobody knows the answer. and i guess i thought, i'll go that i don't remember making the decision to actually write on that topic, but that's what i wrote about was the migrant stream on the east coast from americans to world war two, which was partly african americans and partly immigrants, mostly from italy, but also from other places. and so that's what i wrote. so there was a little bit of immigration in there lots of migration and for the second book, i kind of picked up where that one left off because it's world war two that the us starts admit workers mostly at that point workers on temporary contracts

so this strike will be for dock workers on the east coast. will happen here on the west coast that? >> already seeing and experiencing on the west coast. owners. that means importers and exporters diversifying. cargo away from dependency on trade lanes in east coast and gulf coast ports. how a long beach, oakland, seattle, tacoma, vancouver, bc also pretty significant redirection of cargo away from those ports in order to make sure the card still flowing not bottled up. in case there's some sort of labor action and a couple of one of the stats i read was for every day of a port strike. experts say it takes 4 to 6 days to clear it up. so could have. >> along rippling impact here does the port of oakland. that's our port here in the bay area. that have any of these automated the cranes or shipping containers, anything like that? >> no. and and the west coast is very stable right now. employers and long-term on the west coast during the middle of a multi-year agreement that was negotiated between the employers in the long term and several years

there hasn't been an east coast dockworkers strike since the late 70's west coast ports. meanwhile, are in the middle of a six-year contract. so no imminent labor issues here. the last west coast dockworkers strike was in 2002. >> lawsuit has been filed against the ncaa over their transgender athlete rules. one of the plaintiffs is a san jose state volleyball player as she claims that the school did not tell her better teammate is transgender even after they had room together on road trips. she also claims that players told not to talk about the teammates, gender with anybody outside the team on friday, boise state forfeited a match against san jose. we asked both schools for comment and are awaiting a response from san jose state on the lawsuit. >> happening tomorrow, the san jose city council is voting on whether to give new businesses a tax break and parking benefits to try to help fill downtown office spaces. the proposed policy would exempt businesses from paying the city business tax and fees for at least 5 parking permits for 2 years. here's who would qualify. any
