we also visited these programs last month and they are not only involved with the programs in east los angeles and ventura county but also involved in va hospitals. they are working in a newly integrated model focusing on needs. they have a number of major grants from the feds and foundations and top programs and post doc working on the status because in that county it's a major significant thrust. you have unique programs here but they haven't been coordinated or integrate in community organizations. this is really a significant major step at this point. so i would encourage you to continue on and i hope that we work this out. it reenforces the acknowledgment that we are making significant head way and we will look at additional resources in integrated programs as we face a critical need in this city with not only the elderly but people injured at different stages. that's what we need to look at. when you are at age 70 or 80, it doesn't have to do with age. it can be someone who is critically injured and someone who ends up at laguna honda or others. it doesn't have to be a or b. it could be

and here in the city of glendo glendora, 30 miles east of los angeles, they're bracing for the worst.in january earlier this year. glendora was hit with a massive wildfire that burned 2,000 acres, and that wildfire basic denuded the hillside that surround the homes here. without plants or trees on the hillside, it makes it vulnerable for giving way, if you will, when too much water comes down too fast on the ground and it's not able to absorb it. there are voluntary evacuations in order for the city of glendora. they have left some high schoolers go home early telling parents to come pick you have your kids. school is closed for the day, and they have distributed 18,000 sandbag earlier today. we visited the distribution center in glendora. we spoke with one woman, who told us about the precautions she has been taking. >> i've been buying plastic, and i have tarps and drop clothes because what i'm doing is putting the plastic first, and then i'm putting the sandbags up against it, so the water won't come in, and then drop cloths on top of it. >> as i mention there had is a voluntary ev

this, if you're one of the responders, as we head to riverside, california, that is just east of the los angeles area. there you go, this was just one of five different vehicles in that 80-foot mud slide. that is in the mud. and this area that is just east of the los angeles in some places, rain was coming down at over an inch an hour. that was the problem, bringing all that into gear. they had to rescue 14 different people. that is one system. this is pulling out. we have the other one off the coastline. you can already see this funneling moisture into california. this will push northward. the coastline will get spotty rain, but most of this up into washington and oregon. some places in california are very happy to dry out. one system goes through and by the end of the weekend, another is on top. we will still see heavy rain northern parts of california over the next couple of days could see two or three-inches, so not at much, but still a decent soaking for that drought. >> fighting reasonables in syria. >> isil going after a government base and this is the forces of president assad and the re

we call it east hollywood here in los angeles. it's more residential.more community. >> jackie goldberg is a former los angeles city councilwoman. in 1995, she represents a district where the city is building a subway. it's one of the largest public works projects of its time, and some of the constituents are complaining about it. >> we don't need a metro rail as they are proposing it. let's get back to the buses where the people can be moved around properly. >> not only are residents complaining, but so are the business owners. for them, it's less about the subway itself than the construction. they're losing money. >> it takes so long to build these things underground and you don't have much choice but to tear streets up and close streets. businesses were putting big signs on their property saying, "open for business during construction" because it looked like you couldn't get there. and people were angry. >> so when a water main breaks at the construction site on hollywood boulevard, goldberg holds a press conference to bring attention to the problem.

most risk of heavy mudslide or debris flow is the city of glendora, it's about 30 miles east and south of los angeles. it is a community of 50,000 people, and the majority of homes are nestled against the foothills of the san gabriel yell mountains. the reason why this area is at risk of a mudslide or debris flow is because of the colby fire that destroyed 200 acres and left many hillsides around here denuded, which means it left it without brush and trees. the rain is coming down so quickly, that the ground is not able to absorb it be, and that causes mudslides. they have set up a sandbag distribution center about 18,000 sandbags have been distributed so far. voluntary evacuations are in effect so far, but there may be mandatory evacuations. right now there are no major debris fields flowing, but it will be a tense night for homeowners here. >> thank you. the power was off, and now it's back on in downtown detroit. a widespread outage shut down schools and businesses for hours. bisi onile-ere reports. >> reporter: the city's aging electrical grid is to blame for this power outage over 900 locations
