we're at the station here in east oakland. quite frankly the area where this boys and girls club is located was just too unsafe at this time of the day. in this case you might think the circumstances are even worse. the police i talked to this morning said when they read the report it made the hair on the back of their neck stand up. the victim is a 7-year-old boy. medical staff at children's hospital alerted police about 8:45 last night. police tell us the boy told his mother what happened and she took her child to the hospital. police say the boy was violently raped in the bathroom of a boys and girls club at 85th avenue and international boulevard in east oakland. the victim did not tell anyone at the club. the original investigation looked into the role two other male juveniles played in the rape but there could be more suspects. this morning police tell me they're going to the club to question staff and find out who was there at the time. we're going to try to reach the president of the oakland chapter to see what he know

supporters gathered at the east oakland youth development center to discuss the oscar grant foundation. organizers and partners of the foundation were on hand to pass out information on the services they offer. grant's family said the foundation will help at-risk kids in one of east oakland's roughest neighborhoods. >> we thought it was really important that we actually go into the community and we meet these young men in this geographical area, and share the good news we're bringing and the opportunities for empowerment for themselves. >> oscar grant was killed by former b.a.r.t. police officer johannes mehserle on new year's day in 2009. mehserle, by the way, is serving a two-year sentence for the shooting. >>> a taxi cab driven into a crowd outside a nightclub early this morning injuring more than two dozen people. san diego police say at least 25 people were hurt. six are listed in critical condition tonight. one young woman was reportedly pinned against the wall by the cab, and had her legs severed. investigators say the driver either fell asleep or passed out, but they do not bel

both incidents happened in east oakland, one on 62nd avenue near bancroft, the other about a mile away near the oakland coliseum. the first shooting happened about 1:00 yesterday morning. that's when police say a 31-year-old man from redwood city and his 27-year-old girlfriend from oakland were shot to death as they sat in a parked car on 62nd avenue. about two hours later, a 19-year-old man was shot in the chest after a fight broke out at party in a room at the la quinta hotel near the casino. a second man was shot in the leg. as police responded, officers say their hand-held radios malfunctioned and not for the first time. the major and city officials have promised to fix the problem. >>> lafayette police investigators are searching for suspects wanted in a botched jewelry store robbery. they say two men wearing ski masks went into the jewelry store on mt. diablo boulevard near oak hill road when the owner came out shooting. that was friday afternoon. investigators say one man may have been hit. all of the suspects managed to get away in a getaway car, but the alleged robbers then co

what we've been doing in east oakland, we've been organized neighborhoods.very weekend in january i was on the toughest streets, high crime and high unemployment. we knocked on every door because this neighborhood hadn't had a neighborhood consul for a long time. by knocking on everybody's door we had 80 people show up at the police station last week. in addition to that we had about 200 people show up for martin luther king, literally clean up the neighborhood. we took garbage out of that neighborhood and last saturday we opened a brand-new library. what it tends to do is build the community.them introduce them to each other, historically a black working class neighborhood. before -- it used to be a more of a white and japanese american and today latinos are moving in. so the neighborhoods are changing and we're trying to bring them together and take more responsibility for their kids. >> reporter: what is interesting to say, you have the community engaged now. it can't just be police. you are strapped with the budget and strapped with the bunt of the polic
