police responded to a call at jones' east oakland barber shop. the district attorney's investigation says jones ran almost immediately after the two officers approached him. they tried to tase him but it had no affect. he ran around the corner to an ally. the report says witnesses confirmed officers repeatedly jell yelled at joans to put hands up. at one point officers say they saw a get metal object and thought it was a kbub. one officer yelled he has a gun or something in his hand, that is a quote from the report. the officer says jones turned towards them after trying to jump a fence then reached his left hand into his pocket. that is when officers fired, hitting him six times. in a case that sparked outit turns out he did not have a gun but marijuana and a scale on him. >> one report said my brother was running with his hands in his pockets. anyone who knows what it takes to propel yourself forward, you cannot run with hands in pockets, period. >> that is a bold-faced lie and it's the waste band with nudging in the band and and this is what t

. >> reporter: this is east oakland pride academy where the school is devastated today. you can see crews back there. right now they're inside the portables. they have been making repairs to all the portable classrooms here. that's because 30 classrooms were broken into over the weekend and severely vandalized. numerous items were stolen, including six or eight apple computers from the computer lab. also, even a safe was take frighten the principal's office. the staff told me here this kind of break-in has happened several times in recent years, but this is the worst. the damage is clearly thousands of dollars if not tens of thousands of dollars. because of the damage, broke -- classes were dismissed this morning. i want to show you a couple things about this school. take a look at the doors here. these doors on the portables have this extra security. that bar to hold the door shut. it did work in this case. all the portables have the same thing. in these cases, none of them were broken in by going through the doors. what people did over the weekend at some point, they c

and high school gyms in some of the toughest neighborhoods until 10:00 or midnight in parts of east oakland where we have the highest rates of crime and violence. >> you have been involved in the conversations with business leaders, civic leaders, labor leaders of by how san francisco is going to wrestle its own pension problem down. looking at those talks, how likely is it that, particularly on the labor side, that enough changes are going to be agreed to make a real difference in the problem? >> i am extremely optimistic. the group are working together. all the labor leaders have come to get it. we will have differences of opinion, i grant you that, but i think they know how serious the problem is, and we have impressed upon them -- literally, we have broken down our current budget challenge, and a good 1/3 of it is over $100 million of debt service that we have to deal with that our employer contributions, rises in health care costs, so we are at a critical point where everybody realizes the conversation has to happen now with a commitment to do structural reforms in the system. if we do
