kpix5's andrea nakano has more. east oakland . pkg >> reporter: it was an oakland police officer who spotted the car tied to a murder and home invasion robbery in merced, california. as he tried to pull the car over, the 2004 infiniti sedan took off in a pursuit through an east oakland neighborhood. >> coming up to san leandro, we've got a lot of traffic here. 901! >> reporter: 901 is a police code for crash. the pursuit which lasted less than two minutes ended here on 98th avenue near san leandro street as a black sedan plowed into a pickup truck. officers immediately arrested two of the three men in the car. the third took off on foot. oakland police were able to track him down a few minutes later and by around 6:00 tonight a tow truck started clearing the scene of the accident. we're learning tonight merced police strongly believe the three men are tied to a home invasion robbery and murder in their city. police say just after midnight a group of men gunned down a man at his front door killing 34-year-old la john coakley. >> som

the storm turned deadly after a tree branch fell on a man in east oakland. the tree branch came down near the ardley avenue overpass ... which goes over interstate- 580. officials say one person was staying underneath the tree at the time. the incident happened just before 5:30 yesterday in an area behind a fence that was closed to the public. the victim has not been named. officials say the branch came down on cal-trans property. on withers avenue near pleasant hill road ... the contra costa county public works department was busy cleaning up a downed valley oak tree. luckily no one was hurt and no property was damaged. but its just one of many weather-related incidents that crews expect to respond to in the coming days. thanks will.
