authorities asked people who live beyond the roadblock behind me on san philippe road to leave their homes in the east foothills of san joseu can see this fire did continue to burn throughout the night. calfire tells us it's a 40-acre fire and it's still at 40% to 50% containment. when it started yesterday afternoon, firefighters were worried it could grow to 500 acres because the terrain is so rugged and there is a lot of fuel to burn. this winter's heavy rain storms produced a lot of grass and the recent heat dried it out, leaving the hillsides extremely flammable. that's why you saw calfire's response yesterday afternoon. more than 150 firefighters on the ground. plus four planes, two helicopters dropping water and flame retardant from the air. as for the cause of the fire, calfire is investigating a convertible car, about two miles up the road. the car was abandoned and burned on the side of san philippe road. what's not clear is was the car in some sort of accident, was it stolen and intentionally set on fire or did something else happen to it. reporting live in san jose, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> thank you v
