> we're following a developing story out of the east bay this morning where a thief goes after some unusual items in the streets of vallejo. christie smith is live in vallejo. officials say more than 20 manhole covers have been stolen. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura. i heard of copper theft and wire theft. this may abnew low. talking about storm drain grates. these things weigh over 100 pounds and so far at least 20 have been ripped off in two weeks. when the grates are missing it can be dangerous. one woman drove into one and put in a claim. you could fall straight down up to 15 feet in some cases. that according to vallejo sanitation and flood control. we spoke with them this morning. the thought is that these things are probably sold throughout for scrap. but for the city, this is a high dollar theft. $350 to replace each one. of course that's literally money down the drain and kind of a new thing for the city of vallejo. what they are saying if you see someone trying to yank one of these up call 911. if one of these is missing, make sure you call the sanitation district directly and they will get someone to rep
