let's slide to the north and east a little by the. here bay st. louis. anything that's orange is 6 to 9 feet if the anything in red is greater than 9. so the winds, of course, if the core is over here and you're getting winds coming up from the south, it's shoving that water into the bay st. louis area. hard to see it i think on your screen at home, but all this is red to gulfport, we slide a little bit more to the east. there's some of these barrier islands obviously are trying to help the coastline but you get into around biloxi it's not just of the immediate shoreline area. this gets shoved up for some time. this is a fast-moving storm so the surge will be quick to flood and then once the system moves out it will slowly drain. but pass ga gula well inland and that's one to even six feet put slide a little bit more toward the east and you're in mobile bay and even though the downtown area will have 1 to 3, there will be some areas that have 6. again, that's a concern. i think that's the greatest element as you rightly point out, brook, besides the stor

st. louis, gulf port, the area that was pretty much destroyed by katrina. as we continue to move to the eastlands here, then you slide in of course mobile bay. that will be an issue. let's talk about how much we're talking about as far as the surge. there are some areas that's very passable to the border of alabama we could see 7 to even 11 feet. the waves of water that continue to move in should be just after high tide. now, high tide right now is occurring in plaquemines parish on the mouth of the mississippi. this means something when you have water this high. let's break it down more for you and show you what the surge will be for certain areas. colors of yellow. that's three to six feet. when you get into orange, that's six to nine. when i show you red, that's above nine feet. here is biloxi, you'll start to see a lot of -- some of the areas of big concern, but again, even when you go into around mobile bay, it surges well to the north. now, this is a good, maybe three, six, even nine. but let's go back to the beginning a little more. here is plaquemines parish may miss their landfall.

east of new orleans sparing the city. hurricane nate is caring maximum sustained winds of 90 miles per hour. flooding was becoming a problem in the town of bay st. louis mississippi. a boat washed ashore today. louisiana, mississippi and alabama are under state of emergency. many people staying are dashing shelters. hurricane nate broke towards the coast. the waterspout could be seen off the shore from orange beach , alabama. they have been posting mandatory curfews through tomorrow morning and ordered beaches and fishing piers clothes. >>> mark is here keeping an eye on where nate is headed next. >> moving into mississippi. right now still a category 1 with wins that 85 miles an hour. it is moving at a pretty good -- this will be the track as we head into sunday and the next few hours the storm will weaken into a tropical storm. tomorrow morning it will be a tropical storm. along this path any tropical system can produce a lot of rainfall and that will be the case. most areas around 4 to 6 inches of rainfall but it could be approaching 10 inches. nature will move rapidly off to the north the knees. right now category 1 moving to the north and weakeni

east. that's going to shove water maybe three, six feet up against the levees. these were the ones breached during katrina. then up get up to bay st. louisstian, up toward biloxi as well. and we'll see that into areas of mobile bay. let me show what you the storm surge should look like. in some cases it could be quite heavy. when you have a storm surge, as the center gets closer, the feeder bands shoving the water up in the shorelines could be up to seven feet above dry ground. had you is it going to look community by community? anything you see in yellow is three to six feet. orange is six to nine. anything in red is above nine. okay, into bay st. louis. notice it's red. in toward biloxi, up in the channels and up into all the little river inlets. that's where the water is not going to just shove up into the coast line but find every way it can make its way inland pascagou pascagoula, that's not so bad. the system is going to make a secondary landfall. we'll continue to keep an eye on it. the big threat, t besides the surge, the tornadoes we're starting to see as it continues to make a second landfall, probably around the midnight hour

east coast. look what it's doing to temperatures. we will be in the 80s and 90s, phoenix 97, in the midwest only 51 in st. louistlanta to even 40s in chicago and minneapolis. so that is the autumn seesaw of temperatures, whenever it gets cold there it gets warm here. in fact, warming up to set a record, 91 in san jose today, we will have upper 80s in milpitas and sunnyvale, mid 90s around morgan hill and gilroy. 85 to 90 on the peninsula with 90 anytime you see an asterisk that's either record setting or record tying temperatures. mid to upper 80s for pacifica, half-moon bay, mid to upper 80s in downtown and south san francisco and we will have 89 in san half alley to a record 93 in santa rosa, clear lake about 92, record 87 in oakland but warmer around fremont. castro valley at 89 and that 90 could be a record today in concord and 92 is record in livermore. it will be cooler tonight, 50s and 60s instead of the 60s and 70s we're seeing number so areas this morning. all right. so one more day, wednesday, and into thursday a little cooler, friday we're taking the 90s out of the forecast and by sunday we're taking
