>> east st. louis, it was about 98% black, then the mix was very different. i think there was some of that involved. but i think it was gender related too. >> east st. louis has lost a ton of population over the years. what was it like living there? how long did you live there? >> we moved there, i was in about second grade, about 8 years old. i lived there through high school my grandmother lived there until she passed away in just the past few years. i saw it change from a fairly diverse city, though not necessarily balanced in terms of the government and jobs, to one that's about 98% african-american today. and in that time, of course, a lot of businesses left, the main street that used to be a bustling place on a saturday, i think it's mostly boarded up now, very little commercial activity there anymore, at one point there was a study that about 5% or more of the population was on public assistance. it's prime real estate for development, it's going to turn around, it's got enormous potential that i think is untapped. >> when you lived in east st. louis, i

st. louis and has enormous potential but i think is on tap. >> when you were living in east st. louis, ill., you went to the catholic high school in st. louis. >> yes. >> how did that work? you went to creighton. why did you follow the catholic school prick >> my parents were methodist, and they were living in east st. louis, and they wanted the best education they could possibly get for their children, and it was in the catholic schools, so they converted, so all of their kids, mother included, went to catholic schools after that, said that was what my mother thought was the best path, she made sure that we were enrolled in catholic schools. as i said, i ended up finishing school where she went to high school. i have an uncle who is eight jesuits, so it is natural and i would attend a jesuit school. i just felt more comfortable going someplace, and that point, creighton was about 3000 students. it was comfortable, easy to get to from st. louis. >> going back to the fact that you grew up being shy, when did you begin to get rid of that? >> when i was a cadet in the rotc, because

he was involved in gang related activity on both sides of the wall since he was a teenager in east st. louiss nickname t-bone while serving time at another prison. >> because the incident happened at ft. madison in the '70s, it was hard to get a knife. so i made a knife out of bone, out of a t-bone steak. we used to get steak back in the day. i sharpened it down and i was going to stab the guy with it. before i could stab the guy with it, they had busted me with it. they saw it in my hand. they took it. the name stuck. the guys in the penitentiary called me t-bone. >> but it was taylor's desire to rise to the top of the gang hierarchy on the outside what led him to conduct the cold-blooded murders. for which he will spend the rest of his life behind bars. it happened at a ruckus party in waterloo, iowa. when police arrived to shut it down, taylor grabbed one of the officer's pistols. >> i just shot the man three times, right? everybody broke and run. and the other police, he was still down, right? so i ran over there and i shot him three times. it wasn't because i was on no drugs or alcohol.

behind it, cold air, steady rain and solid shield of it, moving east of st. louis, mix of wintery weather. the boundary is the one that will be on the move with thick fog ahead of it and most of the moisture locked out of here for today. it's going to turn out to be a dry day. look at the storms, bringing snows in texas and they've got a little bit enhanced snow than the local weather service offices projected. that's a sign and signal of the energy streaming up the frontal boundary and that is going to take most of the energy to our north before the front could reach was scattered showers on tuesday night and wednesday. looking for the possibility of a new storm forming here and riding along the front. some computer models shoot this out to sea and keep us dry. others bring us rain turning to accumulating snow, on thursday itself. a big split here, i'm leaning towards the middle of that, which indicates wintery weather. 60 after the fog. fog with showers, 52 overnight. mild temperatures tomorrow, low 60s with rain showers, and a better chance of rain on wednesday.

east coast. technically this is the time of year you can get big monster storms with the blizzards and ice storms. this is just a big rainmaker, maybe tiny bit of snow on the backside near st. louis. as far as the rain goes, everywhere in green has a chance to get into heavier, steadier rain. not too much thunderstorms with it. squall line going through areas around i-10, the panhandle of florida. that's about it. this whole shield of rain will cover the eastern seaboard during the day today and the ohio valley. there is going to be a little bit of snow on the backside of this later on tonight. it's not going to start off as snow. it will start off as rain and change over to snow later. cleveland to erie, buffalo, rochester, syracuse, watertown, upstate new york and burlington, vermont, you can expect a couple inches on the backside. your ground is bare right now, so it will start the process of covering the ground with snow. usually you're pretty deep in it by now. today's forecast, airport delays possible up the east coast and boston later tonight as heavy rain moves your way. that's a look at the national forecast. now here's a look at the weather outside your window. areas li
