eastern shore. lower totals there. highier totals across baltimore and washington. ur blizzard warning for much of southern maryland now extending back into washington now. blizzard warning kicking in at 10:00 p.m. eastern shore counties wind criteria is the key. we'll all be getting a tremendous amount of snow. winds highier in southern maryland. two areas of low pressure. let's break this down. main low toward atlanta, gas. that's moving eastward pushing out to sea and spiraling in atlantic moisture. secondary low comes in saturday. this will will have more cold air. you can see cold rain in norfolk, virginia. sleet mixing in. that can hold accumulations down a little bit. none the less a tremendous amount of winter weather coming in tomorrow morning. finally as we work into saturday afternoon this thing moves out to sea. we'll bring in colder and windier conditions. finally the snow tapering off tomorrow morning. we think a foot and a half minimum a good bet. friday night 27. we'll see heavy snow and wind all night long. blizzard to near blizzard conditions across

baltimore area. we have sleet through much of the eastern half of the state. extending now through the delmarva peninsula. on maryland's most powerful doppler radar now you can see, if you look closely, baltimore getting into some, at least moderate snow now. i'll have to check the objections at the top of the -- observations at the top of the hour, but looks like more sleet down in the easton area and back to cambridge to the south and east. that is why we think accumulations could be a bit less. nonetheless a winter storm warning up for the entire state. baltimore, ocean city, all the way west past hagerstown, frederick and beyond. it will be a snowy situation. we think we'll now push to the number one winter of all time for snow here since records have been kept in the baltimore area. unbelievable stuff. we only need another half-inch. looks like we're probably going to get well beyond that, we're talking a foot or more likely. >> it's in spots already. it was coming down fast and furious. >> westminster -- >> ralph in westminster called in, says there's two

eastern shore. we've got freezing rain, sleet or snow mixture. good chunk of hartford county through baltimore. here in tolleson we got snow. we saw linda so downtown she's got snow. ralph in westminster said he didn't think it would turn over. he said it's a heavy wet snow and it hasn't turned to light fluffy stuff yet. that's really important and let's see if i can pull this back. rather than going in locally. i want to show you what our radar is actually showing as this storm system right here off of the coast is getting organized. watch these bands. this is interesting. you can see these bands pushing up to the north. you can see this heavy stuff pushing back inland and see the cold air beginning to wrap around there. do you see the heavy bands and let's follow this one pushing it sale towards the coast. that's the cold air that will turn everything back over to snow across the area. temperatures right now really on that border from 32 in easton to 30 in baltimore. it's 20s back to the north and west. that's when we're expecting temperatures to drop. that's why if you're getting rain or fre

more up northward never turned over and big ice problems baltimore southbound to the eastern shore. ice with new heavy snow and wind. here's kim brown with a look at traffic. >> well off the top we just want to let drivers and commuters know if you don't have to go out then you probably should stay in. with that said we've had a lot of people writing us at abc2 news saying they have to go to work. the roadways are passable at this time. the major ones anyway as long as you take your time, reduce your speed and drive with a lot of sense, but as megan pointed off if you can get to work fine. how are you going to get back home. that's something you may want to consider before you go to work. a blizzard warning will kick into mid afternoon and could get stuck where you are as you try to make your way back home later this evening. as we look at 95. visibility is getting worse. road conditions getting worse. plow may or may not hit the major roads depending on where you are or you can online get one pass, maybe two at the most. here we go with crashes. southbound on the harrisburg express

eastern shore. while we could be looking at winds pushing 40 miles per hour in baltimore and ann arundel and aberdeenng the bay eastern shore could be pushing 50 miles per hour winds. expecting winds over 06 miles per hour along the beaches of maryland to delaware, new jersey under that blizzard warning to long island. overall again i'm calling for an average of 12 to 20 inch move. i'm sticking with my original forecast from yesterday. more to the north where i had a couple reports in york county averaging 13 to 16 inches of new snow from this storm. they could get another foot on top of that. while it is mixed over with freezing rain and sleet around baltimore that has stole an few hours of potential snow flakes for us. this storm should make 12-20 inches. i said another six to 12 with slightly lighter amounts east. i'm putting four to eight inches in the lower portion of the eastern shore. you could easily surpass that if the heavy snow bands get on top of you. we have ourselves a blizzard warning today. temperatures will go to the mid 20s. wind chills will be down into the low teens and single dig

baltimore city, and dc. pg county. arundel county, harford county and counties on the eastern shore. so we also have the winter storm warning, both of the warnings are in effect until 10:00 tomorrow. so we have to deal with the system overnight. and for the daytime for tomorrow. so how much snow can we see from the system? well here is what we are going to shoot for. 20-to 30 inches is what we could expect to see. that's almost 3 feet of snow. for most of the state of maryland. for central maryland, down through dc and northern virginia. eight to 14 inches for the oakland maryland. and southern tip of the dell mall marva, 12 to 18. so we have seen -- this is radar cade snowfall totals. snow started to fall today. right around noon. and takes time for the air to be saturated. but really the snow intensity has picked up here in the past couple of hours. so around 3 1/2 inches in baltimore. and again, this is just radar indicated. so you could add an inch onto the total right here. 4 inches to woodlawn and 3 1/2 inches toward towson. so lots of snow with this system. so next five days l

baltimore city. we have steady snow in cecil county and towards the eastern shore. rain mixing in at times.basic story of this event. we are safely above freezing in most spots. there could be icy spots with the pennsylvania line. 33 in the rock hall. there are two parts of this system. an area of low pressure near ohio. this storm will pass to cover north and gets pulled back into the course -- coast later tonight and tomorrow. that is when we will get the second part of the storm. light snow or rain this morning. it major layout -- it may try out this afternoon. tomorrow, the winds will gust over 30 miles per hour and may become a huge problem. it will get colder and snow gear as we head into friday. -- snow we'rier as we head into friday. the winds may be a bigger story than the snow. one-3 inches of accumulation is what i am expecting from to night into friday. in harford and cecil counties, there could be higher amounts such as 5 inches. when you get to new jersey, they will get over 1 foot of snow. some places make it 3 feet of snow in new england for instance. some accumulating snow

eastern shore. we see some of the light snow in southern maryland. i see that on the doppler display. it is up 95 north of baltimore. calvert county and down towards. lookout in st. mary's county, we have had some mixed precipitation and down into the northern neck of virginia and eastward. that is where we have the remaining light snow across the region. not a big deal. all advisories have been dropped. we have a couple of systems we should show you. the main system starting to form is off the carolina coast line. it will merge with the l uc at the top of your screen kirk it will be a mass of big storm. well over a foot of snow and over two feet in parts of massachusetts. the wind will increase and they will be picking up later today, especially by about 11:00 a.m. you'll feel and see the difference. it could cause some problems with the saturated ground. with more on what to expect, we will go back to brian in the studio. >> it is kind of a prolonged system. we had a round of this morning. then a bit of a lull. and it will delay loop and moved southward in the evening and it may bring some precipitation. the wind

eastern delaware. southern delaware. gale forced winds that will cause blowing and drifting snow to reduce visibilities, considerably. looking like blizzard conditions there. we might have more in the baltimore area as well. tim as lie beinga the timing -- tim has a look at the timing as well. >> this is a developing system. of course, it's a very fluid situation. the storm is moving in. it's coming in pretty quickly. while we have been talking about this storm arriving after rush hour, in the morning, it could be just around rush hour. and in the midmorning hours, as you're getting to work, we'll start to see this storm system moving in, right on across the state. just kind of progressing. we're talking 7:00 i'm. we'll start to see it on the doorstep. and we're already seeing it there. that's what bob was showing you. by 1:00 p.m. or lunchtime, we're seeing it. then it starts to progress up toward philadelphia. and up the east coast. now, as far as the amounts and the timing, we continue to tweak this map and the amount. we're looking at on the low edge, roughly 16 to 24 inches. we have been talking about the whole discussion starting at accumulations at about a foot. that's where we start.
