about 1300 people are trekking across somalia to a refugee camp in eastern canada. >> the aid workers here are pretty overstretched. this is a very overcrowded camp. there are new arrivals coming in every single day. the total number of people, 380,000. that is expected to rise to 400,000, maybe half a million. this is already the size of a city. at the moment, that aid agencies are struggling to cope. some of the people arriving are so weak and malnourished, they have walked maybe four days, maybe four weeks from somalia. they are fleeing the civil war, there is also intensifying drought. what tends to happen is that the men folk stood behind in somalia and sent on their women and children and maybe the elderly. some of the people are arriving here are the very weakest. the real tragedy is that when children sometimes arrive at this camp, they are almost at their weakest and they can die within a day or so of writing. what the workers are doing is to sort out the weakest cases they measure the children, they weigh them. they take the weakest and they take them to an intensive center

awell as eastern canada. and then back behind the tail end of this frontal system, this w pressure system forming over montana. so areas nearby for western canada, the plains states as well as the northern plains, i should say. look out for those strong thunderstorms. looking quite showery over down in the southwestern corner as well as western mexico here. temperatures stay very, very hot in the central and the southern portions of the u.s. 40 degrees in oklahoma city. 34 in denver and 31 degrees in chicago. now we take a look at europe. it remains very thundery and wet out towards the east. especially for the balkans, deal with that widespread rain and strong thunderstorms. this system is going to be making its way in a northeasterly direction. so much of eastern europe looking quite unsettled out here. that rain pulls away from italy, but a new rain band coming in from the west is going to be reaching the alpine region next. turning things unsettled once again. nothing too severe is expected here. across t

all the way up into eastern canada, too, there's another system working its way in.ut west, not much drier either. all through the rockies and up into western canada more rain looking to develop. it will strengthen at times in areas of british columbia. slightly cooler in new york. 26 is your high. still hot in d.c. at 31. 32 in atlanta. 37 for houston. then looking at 42 degrees in phoenix. finally over towards europe. still talking about the low pressure over the british isles. this has not moved in the past couple days. we're looking at unsettled weather for the uk and ireland. also impacting sections of central europe as well. we've got this frontal system that's going to be bringing rains in towards denmark as well as spreading them over to the east, too. poland also a few showers today. and rain at times could get heavy into parts of germany. on toward denmark some warnings have been issued. you do want to watch out for that. showers will also spread into the scandinavian peninsula as well. to the east, unsettled still mainly across western russia. then things

up towards the north, another line of showers moves through eastern canada. tonight there is a bit of a severe weather risk for parts of ontario and quebec. as for those temperatures, still looking very warm along the east coast of the u.s. new york getting up in towards the 30s. 32 for d.c. 33 in atlanta. and then still very warm in houston as well, coming in at 36. over towards europe, meanwhile, we're looking at a split in the weather. pretty calm for the central sections right here. but on either end, we've still got plenty of activity. showers, thunderstorms, and downpours continuing for a lot of eastern europe. moving on in towards western russia as well. so still pretty unsettled for the balkan peninsula too today. out towards the west, another system that has been spinning over the british isles. it's still with us here today, bringing showers across the region. but also starting to move in towards western and central sections of europe. showers will show up in parts of the alpine region, germany, denmark too. maybe that southern end of norway could b

you bring that 700,000 barrels a day from canada, that's $25 billion a year, $25 billion a year that we are not sending to middle eastern countries who don't like us. if you want to talk about a trade gap, when we trade with canada, think about this, when we trade with canada, 90 cents on the dollar comes back to the united states of america. canada's a great ally, good friend of ours. it's a good trading relationship. we get 90% of that money back. when we trade with middle eastern countries, buying their oil, which we do right now, less than half of that money comes back to the united states. if you want to talk about this from dollars and cents, from jobs, from national security, all of that adds up to passing this bill to build this relationship, build this pipeline with canada who says they want to partner with us. if we turn them down, they'll go to china, but they want this relationship. they want to increase our energy security, create those jobs. the chair: the gentleman's time has expired. the gentleman from california. mr. waxman: madam chair, i was a bit confused when you said how much time was on each side.
