show you another one out of eastern china here. four people were rescued by firefighters after heavy rain caused rising mountain currents here on monday. the four who had been having a barbecue in the mountains when the torrid started raging were found by firefighters. they were stranded in about 30 meters of water. the firefighters used a rope to help all four to safety. good news at the end of this, all were rescued. all too often we see these stories end in tragedy. so some good news out of there. bad news does look like it will bring more heavy rainfall, even across the korean peninsula. and most of japan by the weekend picking up heavy showers accompanied by our tropical storm. by that time it will really be mixing with that low. but just widespread rain as that continues to push through. temperatures are cooling off though as well. beijing with a high of 29. yesterday was in the 30s. ulaanbaatar getting up to 16 here going into wednesday. take a look towards europe. the big topic is this low pressure area spinning in central

throughout much of the day and towards the west, a line of showers can be found from the north eastern china in southwestern china. you notice that a circle of purple can be found across the south china sea. this is a tropical storm. the ninth of the typhoon season so far that could hit the island by saturday morning local time as a tropical storm and continue to head towards nearn vietnam. stormy continues will likely occur. this evening more stormy conditions into the weekend. not just this area, but also the northwestern side of the philippines we will see stormy conditions due to the enhanced monsoon. temperatures are high across much of eastern china. 38 degrees for you in shanghai on thursday. finally in north america, we are seeing a long rain band stretching from the southern half of the plains into the ontario as well as the great lakes region. severe weather across this area and across the north. even tornados couldn't be ruled out in places and with widespread rain for the southeastern corner and into thursday, lots of rain across the eastern 30 including washington, d.c. as well

but this is bringing heavy rain across the eastern china already. so this is another area we're looking at flooding, as well as this. this is a remnant low of utor, which was a tropical system before. it's lingering here. that will be creating the risk -- a high risk and potential for further flooding where the situation is not alleviated yet. where we really want that precipitation, we're not going to get enough to ease that extreme drought condition. shanghai, 32. we're looking at kyoto at 37 degrees. western japan, southern korea as well as eastern china, we're seeing heat advisories and warnings posted for today as well. tokyo getting up to 34 degrees. now, to the americas. the focus of the heavy rain will be here in the southeastern corner of the united states. the ample moisture from the gulf of mexico supplying to this boundary, we'll look at thunderstorms here popping up as well. another chance of flash floods again in the monsoonal showers, which is very active across the four corners region. we really want that precipitation here in northe

high pressure is keeping things dree across central and eastern china. the rain is concentrated in southeastern china. you see that looping back around the 72-hour outlook, that next storm system could be impacting by the weekend or early next week. we'll keep a very close eye. mainland japan and china, high pressure is in place and the records are hot. record breaking back on monday. not much changed since then. it's a little bit cooler relatively, still above average across most of the area but the high pressure combined with the tibetan high is remaining in place. temperatures are reflecting that, shanghai with 31. tokyo cooler, not getting up to the 40 degree mark but 35 here into thursday. let's look towards the americas, what's going on here. the cold front that has been diving from the northwest down towards the southeast, that's still bringing heavy rainfall across the gulf states there into portions of the carolinas as well. still about 50 to 100 millimeters can be expected as it draws moisture out of the gulf of mexico. you see that big area in

over to eastern continental asia we have a new frontal system that has formed stretching from eastern chinaver the korean peninsula and into eastern japan. now, this system is surging copious amounts of moisture from the western ridge of the high pressure system. and what it's doing is that it's bringing very heavy downpours. for example, 40 millimeters of rainfall fell in fukuoka prefecture in japan. lots of these sudden bursts of showers, thunderstorms will be continuing for the rest of the day today across the region. talking about the tropical depression, which used to be a severe tropical storm status has made landfall. it is still bringing lots of moisture across the area and enhancing the southwestern monsoonal flow. for example, in taiwan we have an observation of more than 700 millimeters that fell over the course of a few days. on top of that, we're likely to see about 250 to 300 millimeters in localized areas which is certainly enough to trigger further flooding. good news is this is actually surging water and bringing the moisture as well as heavy downpours to the area where it'

up towards the north, the worst flood occurred in north eastern china. heavy rain and afternoon thundershowers are likely for most of japan. the main story for east asia will be the heat. heat warnings and advisories are posted for inland china and south korea as well as much of jap japan. as well as kyoto. people are trying to find their way to cool themselves off. i want to show you this video coming out of prefecture in inland japan. residents got a winter. they set up the snow making machine in the national park. that turned tons of ice into snow. families got refrom the 36-degree heat as they played in the powder. the children even took parents on a ride. a slide as well. temperatures expected on the hot side. 35 degrees is the expected highs. hot weather across most of china and southern china and you will see nice relief through the heat. hong kong 24 for the high today. in north america, we have a disturbance over here which could be a tropical depression by thursday. head towards the yucatan peninsula. the lingering showers across the southeaste

finally seeing more comfortable temperatures across eastern and inland china. shanghai and chongqing also getting some very welcomed rain. as we head on into the americas, fairly quiet across the continent, but you will be seeing very unstable weather in the southeastern corner for much of the workweek. up towards the northeast it's going to be warming up. you're already seeing temperatures nearing the 30-degree mark. a quick look into europe is going to tell us that things are looking quiet out west. that's going to change for the northern british isles, into tuesday another atlantic system coming. for the time being the wet weather and storms is going to be concentrated from i up towards the northeast. you could see some large hail with this, short-term heavy rain as well. a little showery to the west and cool, but that's also going to change. high pressure expanding from the southwest is going to be improving temperatures across much of germany as well as france and the low countries. we've already got 38 in lisbon and 36 in madrid. here's your extended fore

other parts of eastern asia not going to be so for nat. still heavy rain from northeastern chinan to the southwest. very unstable. down toward the south as well, more rain but where it is not coming in is of just as much importance. we have extended drought conditions across the eastern and central parts of china, along with heat that just doesn't seem to cease at all. going back to the rain for a second, i want to tell you what's happening in the southern china -- south china sea. heavy rain moving from hainan island into southwestern china. this is a tropical depression, you may see some strengthening with it. this is falling on already saturated land. last week another tropical system brought downpours to the same region so there will be the risk of flooding and landslides down toward the south. hot and dry in shanghai, as well as chongqing. seoul and tokyo partly cloudy with 33 degrees. on into europe. showers have been moving across much of the uk for the past several days. there's another system coming in now from the atlantic so after a break you are seeing showers come in

now toward the south, a typhoon is churning over the south china sea after hitting the eastern part of philippines. it's churning over the south china sea while intensifying, moving toward the west. it could hit southern parts of china by thursday morning local time as a very strong typhoon. hi start to feel the stormy conditions today. expected amount of rainfall could be nearly 250 millimeters into the next 24 hours. of course, more heavy rain is likely going into your thursday. flooding is going to be a very big concern, and not just hanain, but hanoi, western parts of guangdong will see quite heavy rain. not good news because this is the area where a couple of tropical systems hit in august. one jebi, tand the other. additional rain is not welcome. further down toward australia, a winter storm went through the southeastern part of the country bringing extremely strong winds. take a look at this situation coming out from sydney. violent winds of more than 100 kilometers took many sid rydney residents by surprise monday. destroyed properties, downed trees and stopped public transport

there are clouds over eastern parts of china but the storm is moving to the west china sea. went by the east coast of china they made the decision to recall much of the fishing fleet across the providence and 20,000 vessels held in port to avoid the weather associated with it. the wind is not major storm system. this is located at the moment. by the time it reaches japan looking at speeds of 75k ph and gusts 95. the rain associated with this which will cause further problems particularly up through the western side of japan. so you think it was no longer a problem for taiwan but looking at the forecast you think it is there but it's not. what is happening is that the presence is enhancing the southwest monsoon and a super monsoon effect like we saw with the philippines the other day. for taiwan we could see another 100-150 millimeters of rain falling over the next 24-48 hours. as for japan, here we would like to see heavy rain particularly on the western coast of both kesho and honsho and tokyo could be looking at less. >> reporter: much of the world is experiencing a slow d
