going to bring strong winds, strong rains and effects are making themselves known in taiwan and eastern china. you can see the spinning cloud of this particular typhoon. plenty of rainfall falling in the philippines as it connects with the monsoonal front, but now it's starting to affect the southeastern portions of china. but this is not the strongest storm that the country has seen. we have to go to last week, where we were talking about rammasun. let's take a look at some video. this piece of video came out on saturday. and people in guangdong continued to clean up the debris left behind by the worst storm to hit the region in 40 years. rammasun slammed ashore late last week, killing 18, leaving over $2 billion in damage and a coastal port city, nearly 300 boats sunk or took damage while taking refuge from high waves. and at least 11,000 homes were destroyed or damaged in the extreme winds. typhoon rammasun also swept through the philippines last week, killing over 100, leaving thousands homeless. let's turn our focus back toward motmo now, and this is going to be something we'll be watchi

first, video out of eastern china where we have been seeing significant flooding. you see right off the bat here, we have showers coming down, flooding on the roads. this all occurred here on tuesday. the storms brought hail, high floodwaters, and firefighters had to rescue people stranded on a hillside here as well. the waters became too powerful to cross in one area. landslides and overturned vehicles were a common sight in some locations. and water logging continues to be a problem in some urban areas. so this is still going to be a problem as we look ahead into the forecast. additional 50 to 100 millimeters could occur across the river basin, some areas as much as 130 millimeters. that same low tracking to the east. that will bring some showers to western parts of japan. it is already been coming down actually. and let's look actually at the reported past 24 hour rain totals. look at that, nagasaki, 315 millimeters has occurred out here. even further to the north and mountains, 200 millimeters has been reported. it does look like over the course of next 24 hour

several hours late interwednesday afternoon, 3:30 in the afternoon, it made another landfall across eastern chinafter that, around 5:30 in the afternoon, this aircraft, a turboprop engine there allowed to take off from taiwan and moved in towards penghu island indicated right here. the weather conditions at this point you would assume the pilots thought conditions here going to improve because the storm system moved into china. but the weather conditions still went down nil this region. so i want to show you video as the storm system moved through this region. of course we know winds were upwards of 100 miles per hour, 160 kilometers per hour. rainfall absolutely torrential. again, this is a ground-level, of course, with the video, then you get up a few hundred meters, a few hundred feet into the atmosphere and you're talking about conditions with less friction aloft being a lot more severe. i want to show you the radar imagery at the time this occurred as far as the crash of the aircraft. there's penghu island. thunderstorms again in place even though the storm system has moved on over china. yo
