people in eastern china are dealing with the effects of a storm. and residents in south korea and japan are now also feeling the impact of the same storm. robert speta tells us more. >> what we've been seeing out here is fung-wong tracking off to the northeast. the latest is fairly heavy precipitation taking place. in the past 24 hours nearly 487 millimeters have come down in the wake of that storm impacting those of you out into eastern china. making landfall monday night into tuesday. but now we can take a look at this and you have the center of circulation here. the bulk of the cloud cover is going off to the east. that's what we call wind shear. so right now, the center of circulation, that center line, that's not all that important. the bigger problem is all that cloud cover in the precipitation that's going to be coming out of this. because as we look ahead through the next 24 hours, on your wednesday, basically the southern half of south korea, as much as 120 millimeters could be seen. you have heavy rainfall warnings out here. also southerl

flooding rains to the philippines and taiwan, tropical storm fung-wong is causing stormy weather in eastern china. our meteorologist sayaka mori joins us. >> this morning tropical storm fung-wong made landfall in china for the first time in 25 years. no one has been injured but 450,000 residents have been affected by the storm. we have the video just from the south of shanghai. fung-wong has caused torrential rains and fierce winds across the province on monday. over 100 kilometer winds and 200 millimeters of rain were recorded and many houses were destroyed. traffic was paralyzed because major roads were inundated. tens of thousands of people had to be evacuated. now the system is moving at a slow pace, right now 20 kilometers per hour. so it's still hugging the eastern seaboard of china. still bringing some windy conditions for the coastal areas. the peak of heavy rain and winds will continue at least for the next couple of hours, and then the next stop is going to be south korea. the system will likely tap the southern portions of the country by wednesday afternoon local time as a tropical sto

. >> i don't think i can stop talking about the very heavy rain across eastern china, unfortunately. it has been an ongoing story, if you can recall. it's still pounding the similar locations. shanghai has been seeing quite some heavy rainfall. this system has a cold front stretching across the area. enough to bring the flooding conditions. another system, this is a low pressure system over towards northeastern areas. it's pulling heat -- the moisture, i should say. that's likely to bring rain there as well. this is pulling into the yellow sea moving to the korean peninsula. the estimation is small. i think it's about 200 millimeters in isolated locations akroft southwestern air kra yas of southwestern korea. the rain is going to be tapering off here in the contour region. we will see sparkling sunshine here across tokyo. but another round of wet weather will be incoming from the western locations and make its way towards konto. look at thchlt it's going to be back to summer, but not those sparkling sunshine and weather. it's going to be very humid and the back of that return of real

however the next target is going to be eastern china, south korea, or japan, as we go into the next several days. the center will likely get very close to shanghai tomorrow, and then make a 90 degree turn towards the east, because we have a high pressure system over the continent. that is preventing the system from moving up to the north. so on wednesday and thursday, fung-wong will probably move through south korea or central japan or western japan. the heavy rain is anticipated in many areas. nearly 300 millimeters of rain is expected in and around the shanghai area for 24 hours. and then heavy rainfall. the heaviest rain could fall in south korea on your wednesday. i think the heaviest rain in japan will be found across the southern areas of cue shoe, as well as flooding, landslides all of them very high risk over areas of east asia. across the americas, heavy rain and wind warnings in place for eastern parts of canada such as newfoundland and nova scotia. but that's going to move away as we go into tuesday. what will be left behind is cooler temperatures for most of eastern canada as we

looking at showers across central and eastern portions of china.here's a risk of flooding out there and then i want to talk about our tropical depression. this one as we go through the rest of the weekend, this is where you want to watch out for if you're out here in the philippines. do think this is going to become a tropical storm. this will be a named storm system. eventually impacting eastern portions of luzon, with heavy rainfall. that's going to be a big issue out here. the threat of flooding sunday into monday and showers kicking into the manila area. as we look towards the americas and want to talk about our other tropical storm out here, this is expected to become a hurricane, pushing north. right now we do have tropical storm watches in effect around western mexico. as that moves off, do want to watch out in baja, california. this is going to become a major hurricane and it will usher in moisture. there is a threat of flooding out here by early next week. elsewhere in the united states though, not so much the tropical weather, it's the co

can see here as we go into wednesday, rainfall expected for north and south korea into the eastern portions of china. and once again, western japan looking at the possibility of some rain. hiroshima also, people are wary because of the rainfall that has been falling in that part of japan. and it looks like that's something that officials will need to monitor going through the next couple of days. here's a look at the forecast for asia. again, seoul cooling off because of the rain. high of 22. shanghai 28. chongqing, you're going to be relatively dry. may see a few showers. high of 28 degrees. in tokyo we are seeing temperatures moving into the upper 20s. and this is a rebound in temperatures. during the weekend, temperatures fell as low as the lower 20s for highs. but now we're seeing temperatures moving closer to 30 degrees by friday and saturday which is average. yokohama, hiroshima, nagano, temperatures moving closer to average for this time of year. take a look at the forecast for north america. you can see the bright white clouds located in the central plains moving into the ohio river valley.

the president's promise of more of china me for eastern ukraine has helped ease the conflict. standing by in the ukrainian capital is our correspondent, simon young, with the latest details. great to see you. what would a cease-fire look like -- not a cease-fire, excuse me, and autonomy in the east look like in practice? >> president poroshenko has offered what he is calling a special status for the rebel held areas in the east of the country, and he says he will bring in a draft bill to that effect in the ukrainian parliament as soon as next week, but at the same time, he has in the sized that ukraine will remain an integral state. what he is not offering is a federal restructuring of the country, and of course, certainly not the full independence that rep role -- that rebel independence leaders continue to demand. it's also interesting that according to some reports, rebels are still suggesting that they should be able to get control of a larger area of territory even then that that they hold militarily on the ground in eastern ukraine. there's no way that any kiev politicia
