out here across the east, a rain band is stretching all the way from central china and into eastern china and this has been an ongoing situation where landslides have occurred in kunan city in yunnan province. more rainfall, about 80 millimeters will be traveling in and around shanghai and then by the weekend it will be reaching over the korean peninsula and also western japan, so we'll start to feel those rainfall about sunday, in and around tokyo as well, but as for now, high pressure system is dominating much of japan, which is bringing us really cold temperatures, the coldest day in tokyo was reported this morning at 11.9 degrees. hokkaido is already seeing about minus 6 degrees. beijing still quite hazy at 16 for your high. let's go over to europe, where in western norway an area where severe flooding is happening as well. look at this video. severe swamped western norway. wednesday two dozen people had to be airlifted after becoming stranded. many local roads have been closed as a result of the severe weather. officials say this is a 1 in 200 year flood event. at this time no seriou

we have the high pressure dominating japan over eastern china. the fair weather conditions will stay in place for the rest of the work week. but you can't miss it here on the map. we have the typhoon down here towards the south. this is typhoon vongfong. this is definitely an intensifying storm system. even take a look at it a little bit closer here. this is a visible satellite at sunrise. and what you can see here is the eye completely shadowed over because the cloud tops are so high, that when the sun was coming up over the horizon, it couldn't penetrate down into the center of the storm system. it gives you a gauge how strong the storm system is at this time. 900 hpa. winds gusting 306 kilometers per hour. this is as strong as it gets, the strongest storm of 2014. the strongest one since typhoon haiyan last year. that impacted the philippines when it was at its peak intensity. the good news with this storm, we're seeing the peak intensity on wednesday into thursday morning. then it's going to start to turn towards the north. once that happens,

but south korea, as well as eastern china are seeing a high pressure system predominant. we're actually seeing temperatures quite low today here in tokyo. 19 degrees, a fall from 27 yesterday. hokkaido is actually seeing wintry precipitation already, because the morning low was about minus 4.5 degrees. the calm and clear conditions are strengthening the radiation al cooling out there. talking about snowfall, actually, in and around sydney, saw snow. blue mountain saw up to 20 centimeters of snowfall. this is due to the jet stream all the way towards the north, pulling a lot of the cold air from the antarctic. this low pressure system has caused flooding around sydney and also sydney airport was closed wednesday night. heavy snowfall in the blue mountains. over 30,000 homes were without power. as for the next few days, we're likely to see it clear up a little bit on our thursday. but back again on friday, heavy rain will be on and off. so please watch out for this. i'll leave you now for our extended forecast. >>> and that wraps up this edition of "newsline." i'm raja prad

towards the west we are seeing high pressure starting to control more and more of the weather into eastern chinand the korean peninsula. now over japan we had a cold front move through with a low pressure system toward the north. in fact, we did have some severe weather popping up in to hokkaido. and what happens as we go in to the evening hours, and into tuesday, this low pressure system will be driving out some colder air, accentuated by the cold front and so we'll be seeing some clearing skies as the high moves in from the west. but in the process, we're going to see some much colder temperatures. check out these highs coming up on tuesday. 19 is all we're going to see on tuesday. sunny skies there in tokyo. 16 in seoul. but again, much cooler temperatures as we go into the next day. now, i'm going to take you down toward india, because we do have a new severe cyclonic storm. this is expected to move toward the north and then turn toward the north and east as we go into the middle of this week. it's a slow moving storm. but it is expected to impact the northwestern portions of india, as we go
