our own hln coverage got under way about 2:30 this afternoon eastern daylight time, and this is a taste of it. >> this is larimer county, coloradod there is a little boy in this aircraft that you're seeing right now, 6-year-old boy, and they're down to about 6,000 feet. what they're trying to do is get to this child. he floated away from his family's home on an experimental aircraft. >> this is why the entire nation was terrified because we thought this little boy was inside that balloon. mike, you have been so patient. larimer county search and rescue. what kind of resources, can you give us a guesstimate of what kind of money was expended by taxpayers in this kooky drama? mike? >> yes. hi. >> are you there? >> yeah. >> okay. what kind of resources were expended by taxpayers in this crazy drama? >> well, i work for larimer county search and rescue, incorporated, which is a volunteer nonprofit agency -- >> what did you guys do? come on, tell me the story. >> we were on standby for awhile, for about an hour, until they sorted out what was going on, and then we had to report to the house and that's where we were going to start our

colorado. around 11:20. mountain daylight. 1:20 eastern daylight when an experimental helium filled balloon shaped like a flying saucer came untethered and the fear was a little boy, 6-year-old falcon haney was inside that balloon. he was nowhere to be found. after the balloon landed we got better word that the boy was not inside to begin with. where he is it is hard to say. the obvious worry is that at some point this balloon reached altitudes of 10,000 11,000 feet. the winds were carrying it pretty high. it was never meant to go more than 20 feet high. this again the picture from abc and the family was on a show called "wife swap." there they are. neighbor said they are great people. they came to help in an emergency. he saw, the neighbor did the haneys. that is richard haney, the dad, building this experimental foil-wrapped helium-filled balloon. he said it was for science experiments to teach his kids what it was like to be in a hurricane or any other weather emergency. you can only imagine what is going through their minds right now as they try to figure out what happened to their little boy, falcon. >> th

eastern new mexico into the panhandles of texas and oklahoma. behind it it's all snow and starting to come down heavily around denver, towards colorado springs, gettingwhat we have with the warnings out there with the snow. they're out there. here's what it looks like. look at the red shaded counties right there. 10 to 18 inches of snow toward the lower parts of colorado, northern new mexico, 4 to 8 inches around colorado springs. those are the advisories. that's the winter storm aspect of this storm. on the front side it's all rain, going to be heavy at times. here's what it looks like around amarillo, showers coming in around the northern part of the panhandle, stretching into the oklahoma panhandle. will all that rain is going to move on into dallas, already there by ft. worth. one to four inches of rain over the next couple of days all stretching into georgia by sometime friday. that's the path of this storm on the other side of the country, the pacific northwest, seattle looking at clouds and rain for most of the day. here is a live shot of this. still dark, but you are going to see rain off and on with a temperature only in the mid-50s. 58 degr

colorado balloon incident. the balloon boy saga. we'll play the family's initial 911 call after the balloon lifted off and we're waiting for a 2:00 news conference eastern from the sheriff's department. it hasn't taken long for the boy in this story to fall into cyberspace. what people are saying about it and how you can get a piece of memorabilia. >>> the saga of the balloon boy loose in the air turned out he was in the attic. it's one of the trending topics in twitter. you're looking at a feed posted by boy in the balloon. another popular feed was from somebody calling themselves i am falcon. there were countless real tweets as well. here's a few samples. one said balloon boy played hide-and-seek with a whole country. if i release my parents hot air balloon, i would hide in the attic too and balloon boy trend topic longer den he was fake missing. any time there's a story like this. someone on the internet will try to make a profit or in this case many someones. shortly after news outlets began carrying this story, t-shirts went up for sale and then mugs hats and other products added to the mix. more than 6,000 items were posted on one site alone by th
