see the extent of the rain and sometimes now turning over to snow across the high plains of eastern colorado and high plains of western nebraska. gone from a spring/summer like feel yesterday to snow today. it's the contrast in air masses that is continuing to generate showers and thunderstorms aplenty today, across the parts of the southern plains and great lakes. first, down into southern oklahoma we go. still more severe thunderstorm watches now for eastern oklahoma, northwestern arkansas and far southwestern parts of missouri. may also have severe weather today from the dallas/ft. worth area down towards houston, texas. further up the line, a moderate risk for severe weather today from minneapolis/st. paul to the northwest side of chicago. so if you have flights from twin cities, st. louis or houston, may have flight delays. in the mid-atlantic, all is quiet. still a few sprinkles now across far northeastern maryland. they are drifting away from us. we have no chance for rain here in the washington area today. especially out to the south and west of washington as well. so, it's going to

there it is, over eastern colorado. shower activity now, beginning to extend into portions of western kentucky. there you see it, southwestern portion of indiana. eventually, we expect those clouds to be in our area tomorrow afternoon. and maybe after 5:00, 6:00, we'll see some shower activity, moving into the region. so we're looking for a damp saturday night in the area. not looking for a ton of rain. i think maybe you could see a quarter inch. maybe a third of an inch in some spots. but definitely going to be on the cooler side. but winds out of generally north to northeast. temperatures will be struggling to maybe mid-50s. that's about it. once this low pressure passes the region. late saturday night into sunday. we'll get some dryer air. still stays rather cool. but a few degrees within warmer sunshine. and next week, this high moves off. warming coming back. we could be in the upper 70s, certainly by next thursday or friday. maybe 80 degrees. so there is some hope for the end of next week. north winds on the bay.

the limon correctional facility located on the flat, windswept landscape of eastern colorado is no exception. >> the dynamics of the population were changing. they were becoming more violent. we were having more gang incidents. so we had begun to compartmentalize the facility and restrict the offender movement in the facility. >> when travis took charge of limon in 2008, he became the youngest warden in colorado, and oversaw the implementation of several new policies at a prison plagued by violence. the restrictions on movement were among the toughest. inmates from the six different housing units could no longer freely move throughout the prison. virtually all of their interactions would now only be with those in their own units. >> we identified the need to start having better control of the facility and isolating the units and restricting their interaction with each other in the courtyard and recreation and dining hall. so we isolated to where only one unit can access those areas at a time. >> everybody's separated from everybody now. so when you separate dogs like that, then they bark. bu

eastern. until then your phone calls from today's "washington journal." host: the "denver post" has a write up of the story that took place at the university of colorado, wowled boulder, showing. so students reacting to the president's speech, wheps it comes to student loan rates and debt. also some information in the lower parts of the story i want to share with you now. when it comes to student loan debts when, it comes to debt comparison, it says that the total outstanding student loan debt now stands at $986 billion. if you compare that to the total outstanding credit card debt, that stands at $704 billion. the average college student debt in 2009 was $24,000. in 2010 that rose to $25,250. it also shows the sources of undergraduate aid that are available, federal loans at $70 billion, the pell grant program at $34 billion, institutional grants at $29 billion, and federal education tax credits and deductions at $13.4 billion. and there are some other lists -- categories on that less as well. again the president addressing directly the remarks of this college crowd when it comes to student loan debt. here's what he had to say. >> so, so we have to make coll
