pretty nice conditions for you along the eastern seaboard.ou can see high pressure being the main feech wur the compressing effect on the atmosphere, a nice day. in the west basically the same deal, sunshine in the l.a. basin, even the san joaquin valley. in the center of the u.s. we'll be dealing with a combination of rain in spots like kansas city where we have one squall line moving through, south of lincoln, nebraska, we see some storms. beatrice, also north of salina. then along parts of 70 from hays over to kansas city you see the scattered showers driving along that area with plenty of cloud cover. on the back half of the system it is not rain but snow you'll be dealing with south of denver and the high levels of the rockies. some places could get up to a foot of snowfall. what we can anticipate in terms of temperatures will be pretty pleasant especially if you happen to be in the dallas/ft. worth area. most of the rain will be moving well to your north so you should remain relatively dry there with high temperatures in dallas going to

it looks like a lot of that energy is going to try to stroll its way up the eastern seaboard stalling out the cold front. the cold front itself bringing in slightly cooler air but will bring in wind shift and that will hold our temperatures from moving out of the 50s today. low pressure to the south will basically pump in heavy rain in southern maryland, lower eastern shore and bring the showers back to baltimore even though we get a little break this morning and we're left over with fog. overall, this complex pattern will ride up the east coast, keep us chilly and as we look back to the west this area of high pressure will be responsible for a dramatic warming trend. it will truly feel like spring by the end of the week. in fact, in some cases may feel like early summer. our forecast model for today highlighting the heavy rain on the eastern shore, we're on the back edge of this so if there's just a shift of 50 miles or so, we say that in the wintertime can make a huge difference but in the spring, can throw heavy rain in the baltimore area. showers in the day, night as well. an area

some parts of the eastern seaboard, the eastern gulf of mexico, although in a political compromise there won't be drilling anywhere closer than 125 miles off the coast of florida so that was something very important to florida senators, no question about that. parts of alaska will now be open to offshore drilling but the president decided not to -- to reverse a bush decision actually to do some drilling on the southern coast of alaska in bristol bay which ironically bristol bay -- bristol palin is named after that bristol bay in alaska. the president has decided to do this extending yet another olive branch to some of the centrist democrats and republicans who of course support offshore drilling. he needs those. he's trying to build a coalition for a broader energy climate bill. it's gotten an interesting reaction from various sides of the aisle. environmentalists are furious about this. it goes a lot further than even i think they were expecting not with standing what the president said in the state of the union. many republicans have given i would call it kind of lukewarm support sayin

eye over that system over texas as it's moving up the gulf coast area and curls up toward the eastern seaboard. the question is how close to us will it come? that will determine whether or not we will see more snow. 47 degrees that is the high temperature expected today. really not looking that bad at all but we will feel chilly with that 15-20-mile-an-hour wind. candace dold has the track edge to let you know, candace. >> reporter: we're talking talg about trouble on 95 now. take a look at this, accident activity on the southbound lanes. it's right past whitemarsh boulevard and we do indeed have a bit of a congested ride moving toward the whitemarsh area toward the beltway. as for the congested no problems to report on bel air road. on southbound 95 it clears up, moving through baltimore from the fort mchenry tunnel down toward the beltway looking at an 8-minute ride at a nice and calm 55 miles per hour. and then speaking of the beltway, well, it's a slow go from 95 up toward 83 on the outer loop lanes. and the volume, just continues to build there right now at 14 minutes, 41 miles per hour.
