as much as 15 inches fell in south eastern texas. a 120 homes are evacuated. residents warned to stay off the streets. the rain is possible for two deaths so far in the town of brenan texas. our reporter is on the ground. what are you seeing there? >> reporter: just to give you an idea where brenum is, it is an hour and 30 minutes of northwest houston. we have seen record rainfall in this area. it is raining right now. in less than 12 hours, we have seen more than 17 inches of rain coming down in this area and as a result, a lot of the streets have collapsed because the pressure of this water of this rain is just too much for a lot of these road ways to handle. if you look over here to my right, you will see that this main street in brenum, it runs from north all the way here, the street here, the side of it has completely collapsed until as a result city crews and police put up these orange cones like you can see here with this yellow tape so people do not drive in this area. this is incredibly dangerous, of course, as you can imagine and as we keep walking he

especially eastern texas this is where we've seen staggering amounts of rainfall over the last several seen radar imagery of accumulation over the last several days but we're looking at that to taper off just a bit before returning as we go into the work week. this is what we have seen over the last few hours. there you can see some of the lightning associated with the storms. but it does look like across the midwest, we're not finished with that wet weather either. across missouri, the colorado river was one of those areas -- the missouri river, rather, was one of those rivers and its tributaries that have seen extreme flooding from heavy downpours. just to the northwest of houston, we saw in the last day or so, with the amount of rainfall in the past 24 hours in brenham was about 17 1/2 inches of rainfall. or about 450 millimeters. it is the wettest calendar day on record ever. and for the capital city of austin, texas, 24-hour rainfall total there. just under nine inches. and then there's another system to worry about. this one tropical depression number two. we just got our update

looking at just the eastern portion of texas, the clouds billowing up due to a disturbance, a low pressure system rolling through the area. that's an indicator of unstable air leading to the possibility of severe thunderstorms. as we go throughout wednesday, we have tornadoes reported on tuesday. wednesday, large hail, damaging winds, tornadoes and flash flooding a part of the concern from iowa south into oklahoma and texas. all throughout the eastern portion of the united states, maybe into canada, looking out for thunderstorms. temperatures will be anywhere from 16 in chicago to 18 in d.c. thunderstorms down toward atlanta with a high of 29. unstable weather for denver into oklahoma city. look at the temperature difference due to the cold front. that warm air, drier frothe west, that combination is where that instability is really taking place. just be on the lookout as we go throughout the day wednesday. wrapping things up with a look at europe. western side of the continent looking at some wet weather. a couple areas of low pressure bringing in some of those unstable activities. thunde
