the area that's coming to the rest of us is down here near atlanta, coming right up the eastern united statesomes. it's not coming in the morning, it's generally in the afternoon. it's going to cover a good bit of the area for the later afternoon and into the evening hours. then we have another disturbance coming across for saturday. so we've got some wet weather to get through here. and then on sunday, we may be able to stay dry. this is the time the eagles would be playing. so there is a chance of some rain. i don't think it would be especially heavy. but there is that chance. and then sunday night, we get some more showers as a cold front comes through. once that comes through, it gets cold around here. more like wintertime. and for the game saturday night, it's mild. starting off at 50 and maybe even going up during the game. you don't see that very often. and a chance of some rain, not much wind. so the wind shouldn't be a factor in the game. tonight, unseasonably warm with those showers and also pretty foggy. 58 for the low in philadelphia. 50 north and west. during the day tomorrow, so

in the central and eastern united states, over the last couple of decades, the u.s. geological survey has come to the conclusion that seismic risk is greater than was previously believed for a number of these sites. and so these are plants where they were formerly believed to be low risk but are now higher risk. there is one plant in the united states which really needs to be considered as a unique case. and that's the indian point nuclear plant. which is only about 25 miles from the new york city border. and within the 50 miles of indian point, there are about 16 million people. and so it's certainly the highest population density around any nuclear plant in the country. as a result, it deserves special scrutiny. not just for safety vulnerability but also for vulnerability to sabotage. because we know that new york historically has been one of the most desirable targets for terrorists and indian point is a nuclear plant, fallout, melted down, would be aimed directly at new york city. it has to be taken seriously as a potential sabotage target. one very important asp

eastern united states has had bad weather the last couple of days. this line of showers and snow continue across washington now to new york. there have been flight delays obviously in chicago today, some in atlanta as well. so just be prepared for that over the next 18 to 20 hours. here's the next weather system, not here yet but in the meantime we've got clear skies and with clearer skies we are seeing a pretty cool night out there. temperatures right now are running in the upper 30s and low 40s, 34 in napa and a dewpoint in the napa area about 31 degrees. temperature can't really get much cooler with the dewpoint. santa rosa should get down to about 32 or 33 degrees. a very cool night, a very cold start to tomorrow morning. we get down to 31, you will see plenty of frost and fog. portions of the north bay but the big concern will be travelers on 99 anything going through the central valley, valley flooding -- you can see that about 8 am. it will be dense tomorrow morning. patchy frost for our morning, areas of valley fog and in the central valley y

united states. here's the problem. it's been really, really warm for the eastern side of the united states, the way that the jet streamrn has been taking place. it is now dragging a lot of very warm tropical moisture. and we are now in winter. when you have that much warm air coming in and cold air from the north slamming into each other, we have a very unstable weather situation. and in fact, we are looking at the possibility on wednesday to see an enhanced risk for severe storms extending from indiana, illinois, mississippi and arkansas. so you want to pay attention to the weather situation as you go throughout the day on wednesday. this will also bring a lot of warm air and some complicated weather situation for christmas eve. a lot of people traveling during the next couple of days. this is not going to be very helpful. back toward the west, snow will be in the forecast which means probably a white christmas for many folks here. christmas eve in vancouver looking at a little bit of snowfall. wet for the eastern side of the united states. also extending into portions of canada as we go through the next few days. no

is weekend are probably going to love it unless you're trying to go skiing somewhere in the eastern united statesse you'll be disappointed. temperatures going into the 60s around here, setting us up for record high temperatures this weekend and then some showers coming in during the day monday. it looks like it will stay dry over much if not all of the weekend. a little haze here in the skyline but otherwise sunshine. 54 degrees. no winds right now. two degrees warmer than this time yesterday. 47 in west chester. that's because the average high temperature in philadelphia, we're already 54 in philly. 56 in bensalem and mount holly and glassboro, 60 atlantic city international. ha that's an 11:00 a.m. temperature in december. we have a land breeze today and so that's why beach haven is so much warmer than inland. 63 degrees there and 58 in cape may with the wind coming in off of the bay so we're two degrees warmer in philadelphia but allentown and northeast philly, seven degrees warmer than this time yesterday. there are clouds back to the west moving in but there's no rain associated with that so

notice the big event in the south eastern united states. we had the flooding.tornado events we've seen recently. in south america, the pattern typically shifts from west to east, and it often brings a lot of storms that could bring potentially huge flooding events like we've seen in the last couple of weeks. also the similar pattern across north america comes across the atlantic and can cause huge flooding events for parts of united kingdom. you can see e the event behind me. we've noticed the pattern comes off of north america and goes up toward the united kingdom. that's what recently happened. the difference is the storm was able to really intensify, and what we noticed recently is it's taking a warmer temperatures with it. see the influx of the greens and blues? it's going all the way up toward the north pole, and area this time of year we don't normally see that warmth be able to go up through. it's from the same system that brought such heavy rain to parts of the united kingdom. but one thing it also did is brought very warm temperatures to the north pole

this system, powerful weather moving through the eastern united states. again, to the mississippi valley now in ohio valleys, you are going to have slight problems tomorrow traveling. atlanta, new york, all those areas, north up into toronto, you're going to see flight delays because of the severe weather or very unstable weather. for us, we are in a stable weather pattern, that's why we've got a forecast out there for some fog, perhaps, patchy fog tonight and frost. there is a stable pattern which means when you hear me say frost, you're not going to hear me say rain. same with valley fog. you don't get them together. you're going to get frost, probably not rain. with valley fog, you're probably not going to see rain. winds are calm. because the winds are, side or relatively calm, these are currently numbers, because they are relatively calm, it's going to be colder tonight. the wind wants us up on nights like this. already down to 43 in walnut creek. 45 in livermore. is usually going to hit 30 degrees, 32 in some of these they valleys. oakland tomorrow

we don't have that polar vortex that has dug deeply across the eastern united states. you may remember that from just a year or so ago. before the west, we're looking at primarily a rain event. the mountains can expect snowfall. unless you're at higher elevations, you're looking at mostly what will be in the form of rain coming up for christmas eve and christmas day. all right. here's representative temperatures from wednesday into thursday, then into friday. boston 13 degrees. it will be 18 degrees celsius for christmas eve. that is exceptional. and, george, in chicago, the high temperature will be around 45 degrees. 7 degrees celsius. in sydney, australia temperatures expected to be in the mid to upper 20s. in atlanta, georgia, in the mid-20s. this is exceptional for this time of year. temperatures are going to be running a good 10 to 20 degrees above where they should be for this time of year. in victoria, british columbia, it has been nearly two years since they saw their last measurable snowfall. that's just incredible. george? >> that is incredible indeed. karen,

the bill requires the administration to designate at least 10 new energy corridors in the eastern united states to help prioritize construction. the bill also requires the energy department to make decisions on applications that have been submitted with the export of natural gas. in addition, we'll also be voting this week on legislation disapproving the environmental protection agency's regular ligses on both existing and new power plants. my district has been hit hard over the past several years by regulations by the environmental protection agencies regarding power -- coal power plants. i have opposed these unrealistic regulations. when a coal power plant is forced to shut down it has a devastating effect which extends far beyond the men and women left jobless, to the trucking and mining jobs that have connected to it. many of these are family supporting positions which communs have depended on literally for decades. i whole hortedly support these resolutions disapproveling of the emissions rule in now power plants. the protection of the environment is an important goal yet these regulations
