and you see the white and gray that is snow right now getting a little bets of that in eastern west virginia panhandle of west virginia northern shenandoah valley wet snowflakes along 81 through much of frederick county virginia into clark county and the panhandle of west virginia just a few flurries now here in frederick and then down 270 there are a few flurries northern part of 270 right on the frederick county line down to germantown. south of there just rain. and then east of there, this is an area of a little bit of wet snow in eastern montgomery county northern prince george's co and howard county where temperatures are still all above freezing. so any of this wet snow that is falling to our north is melting on roads and it's going to stay above freezing here for another several hours. now, here is the timing hour by hour. this area in the pink, this is where we will get the wet snow mixing in the area in green will remain all rain for the most part through 6:00 this morning. and then maybe around 7:00 8:00 9:00 getting wet snowflakes this washington northern virginia, and some of tha

eastern shore. let's check numbers. hit 50 in virginia today. still in the mid 40's all across the region.ll be slow to fall. but fall they will tonight. so the stage will be set with temperatures about freezing in the morning and early in the morning starting at 6:00 a.m. in the metro area and 4:00 a.m. north and west winter weather advisory goes into effect and will be in effect until 6:00 p.m. until it's canceled a bit early. it depends on what happens with the temperatures the amount of moisture this clipper system brings in. 41 at martinsburg. 49 by fredricksburg. by early tomorrow morning temperatures outside of the city will be somewhere right about freezing. above freezing in the city. these temperatures are critical. if we're callingn the lower 20's, whole new ballgame in this system. because we'll be so close, we'll lose some of the snow to melting initially. that complicates how much will fall. let's look at the system itself it has a little precipitation with it. most of the precipitation will come from the southern jet stream coming across southern missouri and western ohio va

this area of low pressure will move off the coast between virginia, north carolina and then speed up the easterneaboard rapidly intensifying into a nor'easter, major east coast snowstorm for philadelphia through new york and boston. you can see on storm scan3 light areas of snow moving through a few snow showers scattered who are and there eastern burlington county through delaware county parts of new castle and to the west into parts of chester county. so not a lot of snow expected with this first round. that is the good news. so here's a look at what we expect. for your morning commute light snow will be falling. a coating to an inch already on the ground especially north and west of the city. some icy spots and very slow travel just because of the wet roads and the cold conditions temperatures will be below freezing come tomorrow morning. here's a look at our future weather and you can see temperatures overnight still in the 30s. our low in philadelphia around 31. tomorrow morning some occasional snow showers still begin to fall. throughout the afternoon as well. but between about 2:00 o'cloc

as we get into sunday an area of low pressure develops off virginias and carolinas that runs the eastern seaboard. that means sunday is a miserable day. if you have anything to do outdoors today would be the day to get it down, today 34 degrees is the forecasted high. sunday soaker on the way milder next week. as a matter of fact i believe we have 4 days in the forecast that are 40 degrees if not milder than that. i'll have more on that with the seven day when i step back inside in ten minutes. >> new this morning fire that is severely damaged a business in chester county. firefighters had to watch out for ice as they battle the the blaze inside the soft pretzel factor. it turned the 100 block of church street in west chester into a sheet of ice. the fire was brought under control in an hour, the fire is under investigation. >>> the pa legacy has been restored returning 112 wins to the school and returning joe pa to the winningest coach in college football. sharrie williams has more. >> today is a victory for people of pennsylvania. today is a victory for penn state nation. >> reporter:

can see already that leading edge of the moisture moving in across west virginia and really taking over that entire state and easterndge of the buckeye state. that is beginning of the moisture on the way. we can zoom it out and see this strung out batch of snow. all of this is in the most organized thing we have ever seen but basically the disturbance that will be rolling through relatively swift there i and, come with terrible timing. we are looking ahead to i would say just after lunchtime. there you have it, 1:00 p.m. first signs of life on radar will likely be moving in our area. you may getaway with until two or 3:00 p.m. around philadelphia but then it just moves on through here and it comes through with very poor timing into the the evening rush and as we look ahead into our thursday, thankfully it is all out of here. with that said lets take a look at how this will pan out here again, mainly in the afternoon we will see that snow picking up snow showers mixing with rain initially at the coast. watch for slick travel and reduced visibility. it is one to 3 inches locally up to four through central delaware and

moisture gathering in the eastern and central part of north carolina also southern and central sections of virginiagoing creep slowly but surely to the north. so tomorrow morning we could be looking at a wintry mix in extreme southern sections of delaware as well as south jersey jersey. but everywhere, everybody is going to see temperatures overnight below freezing. even in the teens. feels like temperatures will be in the single digits. so that wintry mix wednesday primarily for south jersey and southern sections of delaware but hang in there if you don't like the cold because the milder air is in the seven day forecast forecast. but let's run the model as we go hour by hour overnight we're dry dry. but tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. when you're watching sue she'll likely be tracking some moisture moving in to southern and central sections of delaware as well as around cape may county. temperatures will be critical but watch what happens hour by hour. where you see the white that's the snow and where you see that pink is the wintry mix. this is 10am. we're still looking at most of that moisture onc

there it is all across virginia maryland and west virginia now heading to the bay and the eastern shorethe north and west heading south and east. areas are seeing wider and brighter colors. it's coming down harder in southern montgomery and fairfax county. it breaks up a little bit farther to our south. also coming down harder in northern fauquier county and culpeper. madison in green. there's a band where it is harder to see near laurel and across the bay in the eastern shore. this is all coming from the fast moving area of low pressure across the ohio valley. and it's quickly end inging by noontime. temperatures are cold enough for everything to stick. we are near 20 degrees. and we're in the low to mid-20s in washington near the bay. we have this area in purple under the winter weather advisory until 1:00 this afternoon. covering northern virginia the district most of maryland. most of west virginia. this is in effect until 1:00. could be moderate at times, one the two inches possible on the slippery surfaces as we have seen this morning with our reporters out reporting on the roads.

eastern, 5:00 p.m. pacific. >>> tonight, controversy at the university of virginia.uthorities received a letter from their national leaders telling them not to participate in fraternity bid night. tension has been high since "rolling stone" reported a sexual assault on campus. erica pitzy, what's going on there? >> reporter: richelle good evening to you. this is a big deal for uva. in about a half an hour you have the televised men's basketball game against rival duke university about to start, which is why the main drag here along the uva grounds is pretty hopping. you've got restaurants in bar -- and bar did all carrying the game. but that is not the only reason to celebrate here you've got uva's fraternities welcoming their new members in what is called "boys' bid night." those celebrations have been going on all day long. and then there are the sorority did. sorority row is quiet. some sorority sisters say they are going to be inside their houses watching the game. there are some being required to remain inside those houses all night long not even allowed to come

the eastern united states and my home state of west virginia have been blessed with shale gas reserves. and we're just discovering really how massive they are. if i could illustrate the point for a few minutes. let me share a few facts from the december 2014 department of energy report on oil and gas reserves in the united states. in 2013, west virginia surpassed oklahoma to become the third largest shale gas reserve state. west virginia also had the second largest discoveries of natural gas reserves behind only pennsylvania and in fact a full 70% of the 2013 increase in proven gas reserves is because of west virginia and pennsylvania in the marcellus shale play. we have more than enough gas to power a renaissance back home in west virginia and to export liquefied natural gas, supplying lng to our friends and allies increases their dependence on hostile regimes, as we heard from the testimony, and a result will increase our own national security. not to mention a huge economic boon to certain areas of the country and certainly my state of west virginia. i would like to start with a que
