below freezing in easton. washington hanging on. we are tracking heavy snow as it pushes in out of the south and west. justin was talking at heavy bands that continue to move in out of the south and west and northward into the immediate baltimore area. this is really just the beginning of it of 24-hours of additional snow. 27 tonight. heavy snow. heavy wind. that is going to continue to be the story through the overnight period. in fact, i think we'll be down to 27 degrees tonight. all sticking overnight. the only thing that will hold down accumulations slightly will be the fact that this is a heavy, dense, wet snow. however, the reality is that even though it is a heavy snow that creates its own brand of problems. less accumulation but a denser snow could lead to serious power line and tree coming down- type of problems. we'll break this down in detail in a few minutes. including storm totals which will be huge and historic. >>> road conditions are getting treacherous. we have some roads closed due to major accidents. looking at th

here we go. 31 degrees in baltimore right now. 28 easton. we're at freezing in pax river. 33, hagerstown on the fence with freezing. that's the problem with the first part of this storm. there's not a tremendous amount of arctic air. the satellite radar looks impressive. i want to show what you this is doing to show up precipitation falling from the clouds about you the not reaching into the ground. it's drying up. call that sublimation. this is virga. it's not here yet, so we expect to get between 10:00 and 2:00. once it gets here it will pick up in a hurry. we mix in a few hours of sleet and that will eat into the snowfall totals. there is a wide range of expectations available. the main batch reporting light snow right now. again, it's going to look more impressive on the radars all morning then midday and the afternoon, this storm will pick up. we're talking about the tropical feed coming out of the gulf coast. georgia, the second feed will come out with the jet stream right on top of us. here's what we expect. the forecast model lagging

again, below freezing in baltimore, we are at the freezing mark at easton so nor sticking in the eastern shore counties and out towards frederick below freezing there. virginia and west virginia, and the d.c. area also under this winter storm warning but a winter advisory lesser for our eastern counties. not too much there, too much rain mixing early on in the storm. plenty of snow out of the west. wider view, you see that there's not much in behind this so as we kick this storm out to sea early tomorrow and this area of low pressure in the carolinas goes out, things clear up quickly. a couple more morning flurries and i think we're clear. in the wake of this storm, several inches of snow on the ground. baltimore area, 3 to 5 inch total. and then as we go into the day tomorrow, actually go above freezing. 39. that storm moves out quickly. may see sunshine in the afternoon. 26 cold and dry tomorrow night and your seven-day forecast. things actually look decent tomorrow afternoon, thursday a nice day at 42 with sun, our next big storm due in late friday and lasting through the day on satur

theres was a line between the pink as you can see around easton indicating the sleet. a lot of this area filling in where we earlier had sleet, now it turns out to be the snow moving in. we put things into motion as it moves from west to north to east. more snow is on the way, the dry air being replaced by the moisture and the snow. we have the set up that we had earlier we were talking about with the low pressure center off in the ohio valley, feeding the low. watch as this snow strengthens when it moves north. we have plenty of snow you can see it here indicated by the blue. as the low pressure center continues to move off the coast and the darkening of the blue an indication of the strengthening heading toward long island. we get on the backside of it snow and strong winds. notice the lines of equal pressure and high pressure building in. we are going to get high pressure to build in, the low pressure moving out the result is a strong pressure gradient. we are concerned about the drifting snow and the heavy snow fall that could lead to any intinction. intinction. co

temperatures right now really on that border from 32 in easton to 30 in baltimore. it's 20s back to the north and west. that's when we're expecting temperatures to drop. that's why if you're getting rain or freezing rain or some mixture we all go to snow at some point this morning and temperatures stay in the mid- 20s. the blizzard warning basically means that we have conditions that will exceed 35 miles per hour winds and snow at the rate of 1 inch per hour for three hours or longer. that blizzard warning is actual from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. there's the water view of our storm and you can see that band racing from left to right. that's the cold air that's part of the upper level system interacting with this coastal low that is just beginning to crank. once this thing gets set. all right, now that we've got the ingredient. it's almost like popcorn in the microwave. pop, pop, pop and then all a sudden they all go. well this is about to happen right now and in the atmosphere we call that a bomb. the pressure in the atmosphere is going to drop rapidly now and that's
