joining us now live is nbc's gina kim, who is live in altadena, the scene of the eaton fire. and gina, this is one of the largest and most stubborn fires. what are you hearing from the front lines? well, janelle, as you mentioned, we are getting a little bit of a respite today. after four days of fierce winds, we had relatively calm winds and more humidity today. but we are about to lose sunlight here any minute now. and i just wanted to show you a sliver of what this fire did at the eaton fire, which is the most destructive fire among those burning here in southern california. you can see the erratic nature of it. we have tons of debris. this church almost completely gone down the street from it. all those other homes and structures gone. but then look across the street. you have another church here that is completely intact. even the windows didn't get any damage. and then as you go to the right even more, you have half of a building standing and then the other half of the building not standing. so this just goes to show you what we're seeing. it's just a little slice of wha

and then we have the eaton fire that is also off towards the east of glendale. so just looking at all of those fires on the map and this red flag warning that has been extended through tomorrow, and it may not be until friday when the wind starts to calm down with the santa ana wind event, we get high pressure that builds east of the sierra that forces the wind to come through the mountain, and as it does so, it's compressed and warmed up, but it also dries out as it moves through the desert. and any remaining humidity continues to decrease as it squeezes through those canyons and creates those very strong winds that we've seen topping over 100mph in some of these cases. so we have the hot, dry conditions as well as the very high fire danger as all of this wind blows offshore. and you saw in jennifer's live shot just how strong those winds were blowing. yesterday we saw this fire explode, the palisades fire. and this has been the case for a lot of the fires that have been developing. and then the embers that are created from those flames as they go up in the air,

the eaton fire, the palisades fire, the new fire that sparked yesterday and today. and the otto fire and the hurst fire, we're going to continue to see these winds calming down later tonight. that's good news. there will be a quiet period overnight before the winds pick up tomorrow morning. by tomorrow afternoon, we are, once again, going to be looking at another high wind event. but 40 to 60 miles an hour gusts, compared to the 80 to 1 is 00 miles an hour gust that started this event. it won't be nearly as dangerous as what we saw last week. by thursday, much quieter, much calmer winds would have arrived. even a little bit of moisture, which is really great news. the winds are finally begin to switch directions because right now, they're coming in straight from east to west. again, with more moisture on the way later this week, that is really great news when it comes to hopefully being able to put a little bit more containment on these wildfires. but does that mean any of that moisture is heading for us here in the bay area? i'll let you know what that means for us
